Hearth

The cold outside had just become more unforgiving with each passing winter day, the days become shorter and nights even colder than anyone could ever imagine it to be. Those who could retreated inside to their warmer homes, even if not as warm as they wanted it, and wild animals retreated to caves and shelter of any kind to escape what nature had to offer to them. It was one of those treacherous winters as people said, while others said it could be so much worse.

Curled up in the comfort of warmth, Yao the fire hybrid laid by the raging fire outside. After headbutting and breaking the door while chasing the annoying and LOUD cat creature, he was kicked out into the cold as punishment. His riders were no heartless though, making a fire to warm his outside even if on the inside he was so very sad and pouty as he didn’t think he did anything wrong. Close by one of the other dragons laid by, Hades rolling in the snow as he didn’t seem to mind the cold at all. He didn’t stay laying for long though, as soon he was up and digging in the snow, growling about ‘plants’ as he uncovered greenery. Yao had no cares what he was doing, debating if he should just crawl into the fire to keep warm at this rate. He did have a blanket on, so maybe not as he didn’t want to upset the riders even more.

“Just say sorry.” Hades growled, pulling on something green and covered in snow dust. It eventually popped out and was put right into a pile that was near the wagon.

“Hmf, I did nothing wrong!” He declared, curling away from such an absurd idea. What did HE had to be sorry for? The cat started it!

“You did break the door, you know better.” Hades told him, but left him to pout as he continued on his gathering of ‘plants’.

It was rather quiet for a while, Yao shivering next to the roaring flames as Hades gathered, neither talking as Yao continued to give Hades the silent treatment. Hades did care either way, finding the red one childish, but his own rider had told him to stay out and keep him warm until they fixed the door. The riders were soft, and merely wanted Yao out as they patched up what he had broken before he was back in.

It didn’t stay silent however, as the soft noise of someone approaching hit both of the male’s ears. Hades looked up first, spotting the large sized black dragon whose head was low to the ground. Sniffing at the snowed over ground but stopped and eyed the high flames. Yao was to follow as he could feel just something staring in his direction at his fire.

Growling more threatening at the dragon, it retreated fast, more docile that Hades suspected and after changed to more purry like growls that called the black winged one closer to him in curiosity.

Keeping his head now, Nash moved to rub on Hades, trying to show a more gentle nature he was learning he needed to do because he looked so ‘scary’ according to everyone else. He laid down in the snow, making big eyes at Hades who huffed, but gave in easily and returned the rubs of acceptance. More excited, the black stranger trotted off and this time returned with another one. A... walking bush? Covered in snow and visibly cold as they shook from layer they didn't need.

Perking up, Hades herded them toward Yao’s fire. A very unhappy Yao who didn’t want to share his warmth, but seeing the very cold one he supposed he could. They looked to be a lot colder than he was. Moving the snow and revealing the still cold but less cold ground, Hades had quite the time trying to get the two to lay so he could lay on them. He couldn’t blame them though, they were strangers, but with time the very cold Lief accepted what the other strange black dragon was trying to do and Nash curled up around them so a warm next was made under Hades.

It wasn’t permanent though, as Hades shooed Yao off to get the riders. Even if one of them was in trouble, all of it would be forgotten in favor of helping a dragon and doing good. They were softies like that.

“But it’s cold.” Yao huffed, trying to stay near the flames that Hades was hogging.

“If you help, they may let you back inside.” At the prospect of more being back inside in the much warmer home, Yao sped right off toward the house.

SNuggling himself closer to the ground, he raised a paw to look at the horned bush dragon and the fuzzy black one, both looking back up to him with questions he didn’t answer as he lowered his paw right back down to keep them oh so warm as he waited.

It didn’t take Kaz long to throw on a coat at the mention of cold dragons. Giving Ix a quick little kiss as he got the fireplace going, he hopped out of the caravan and went towards his beast who was already dusted in the whiteness that fell down. It took a moment to get him to realize Hades was nesting on the others, but eventually he nudged Hades until he gave in and got up, cooing so sweetly at the two stranger dragons. He even brought treats to lure them inside.

WIth Hades leading the way, he made a clear bath back to the house on wheels, putting his front paws on the doorstep area so it was down lower for fluffy bush dragon to get inside.

“I promise it’s warmer inside, there’s a fireplace with a grand fire going and we cleared the hearth so you can all sit around.” For Hades and the other dark colored one, that was all the convincing they needed. The greener one didn’t seem as sure, but with the rider being so nice and the dragons as well, worse case Lief was just going to hop out and run far into the cold.

Accepting the help from the big stranger dog looking dragon and it’s rider, she was surprised to walk right into warmth. The red and metal covered dragon was already rolling around very close to the flames, very clearly a fire dragon. Nash was laying on himself, curling into a fuzzy round ball with wings and had already made a new friend. A top him, Link stretched out and kneaded his scales. With a few circles he too calmed down and vanished into the black bun as his eyes went off. Hades joined after, leaving plenty of space for Lief to join, and join she did as she settled down on the blanket on the ground for her. It was warm, oh so warm. It made the trek through the snow almost worth it. Behind the big group of dragons, the two riders laid on the couch, grabbing up some blankets and pillows so they too could get some warmth instead of bracing the cold.

“You all get warm now, it’s too cold for anything to be out there.” Ix told them, snuggling into Kaz’s chest happily as the dragons all chimed in with their noise of choice before settling back in.
