Clothing Style

During his life on Lynxith, Kotaka tended to dress in the somewhat traditional clothing of the Feelina cats, although what he wore was usually more ornate in design due to his position as the son of their leader and as a powerful Life Channeler. This often consisted of long sleeved shirts or tunics with gold trim on the bottom and the ends of the sleeves, along with black pants and boots with patterned trim at the tops. The patterned trim includes alternating triangles with the inner ones having small dots in the center, this pattern being representative of important figures of the Feelina clan. He also tended to wear his red and gold channeling robes or a cloak when not out and about. His earrings are all gold, and he often wears a leather belt across his chest that keeps his staff strapped behind him. After the attack on Lynxith, he has opted to wearing black robes and/or cloaks as a sign of mourning. He always wears a black and red pendant with the symbol of the Kiatee, which matches his staff.

During the post main story arc, Kotaka's style loosens drastically and he tends to only wear simple tops, usually tattered or stitched up, with jeans and short leather boots. He maintains his gold earrings, but he rarely ever wears his robes since he wants nothing to do with channeling anymore. He still wears his pendant all the time though.

Personality

Kotaka is a cynical and rather pessimistic man whose spirit seems to have died with his homeworld. Before the destruction of Lynxith, Kotaka was known as a skilled channeler of his clan who was responsible with his duties but otherwise a somewhat mischievous and lethargic man. As the eldest child of the clan's leader, he was good to his people and always thinking in their best interests, which made him well liked and admired in his village. He struck a balance between being reverent and respectful of their traditions and rituals while also having a fair sense of humor and a lightly cheeky/sassy demeanor in casual situations. He of course was very close with his mother and sister, and he was best friends with his Rain Hawk partner, Sorva. He would approach his problems with an eager and positive attitude, and when he had no problems to tackle he would settle down into either mild pranks on his friends or sleeping for most of his free time.

Following the destruction of his home and his people, Kotaka's nature has darkened into a bitter and cynical one. Prior to the genocide of his kind, he had fallen into a depression after the permanent death of his mother, and his already dimmed spirit was completely shattered by the worldwide attack. During this time, Kotaka became more vulnerable and desperate to hold on to what little he had left. He gains an unstoppable driven to reclaim what he has lost, and he becomes desperate enough that he doesn't care what he has to do to reach his goals. He also has a tendency to lash out at others, particularly the Kiamians, for he believes they chose to do nothing to aid the denizens of Lynxith. When among them he is cruel and callous, and he thoroughly enjoys watching them suffer in their punishment for not acting. It becomes rather clear as he is gradually pushed into a corner that something is manipulating him into behaving more irrationally than he normally would in these circumstances, although he seems to think it's helping him by giving him more power. Despite the fact that Kotaka would likely be as bitter as he is now even without outside manipulation, it's likely he wouldn't have gone this far with it on his own.

After the events of the main story arc, Kotaka settles back into his cynical depression and is much more subdued. He has gotten incredibly lazy and unmotivated and sees little point to carrying on with anything and only does so for the sake of his sister. He's just as bitter as before, yet his malicious intent has disappeared and he comes off as just incredibly moody and nihilistic. He usually doesn't get out of bed unless his sister physically forces him to, and he's rarely cooperative with anyone who approaches him. For the most part he prefers to keep to himself and would rather let himself rot away alone than try to build himself back up again.

Backstory

Kotaka was the eldest son to the tribe leader of Feelina, and he was meant to be the next leader one day when his mother would finally pass the responsibility onto him. However, after her unexpected death, Kotaka fell into a depression that seemed to drain all energy from him. Not even his sister, Katako, could break him from his mourning, and his partner Rain Hawk, Sorva, was the only one who could console him, but eventually even he was shut out. The drastic actions of his partner to pull Kotaka out of his despair lead to the death of their entire planet, and Kotaka finds new power to wage war on the neighboring planet to change things back.

Trivia:

  • Kotaka was originally more of an anthro cat, but I changed him to just have cat ears and a tail instead during this big "redesign purge" where I changed all my anthro characters into kemonomimis instead, although I didn't know that term at the time. I just knew I didn't like how bad I was at drawing animals or animal faces, and instead of doing the sensible thing and just practicing more, I redesigned everyone to be human-faced.
  • Kotaka isn't terribly fond of being totally indoors when he's doing things, and he greatly prefers to do activities outdoors. He doesn't mind being idle indoors, but if he has to channel his energy in any productive manner, he would rather be outside and in touch with fresh air or nature in some manner.
    • Katako has placed several plants in his room following the events of TDD. She's hoping it'll encourage him to be less lazy since it brings a little more life to his living space that he's chosen to wallow in.
  • In the past, Kotaka would actively try to keep himself busy enough to tire himself out for long naps. He enjoyed sleeping, but he also didn't like wasting time or feeling unproductive.
    • When his depression hits him hard leading into the events of TDD, he loses that careful balance he was once skilled at keeping with his energy and falls into devastating lows before launching into manic highs once he tries to "fix" everything that he has lost.
  • He finds a lot of comfort when in areas of fresh and open air, since one of his favorite activities was to go flying with Sorva.
    • Since he was so close with Sorva, Kotaka finds the texture of feathers to be comforting.
  • Dislikes humidity, since it makes his hair and fur frizzy and unmanageable, which in turn makes him irritable.
  • His favorite color is red.
  • "Casually: red shirt with stitched sleeves and midsection, Kiatee pendent, 3 earrings per ear, jeans with stitched bottom, brown shoes; Formal: black longsleeved robe with red trim and hood, crossed sashes over shoulders, red and black channeling gloves, Kiatee pendent, 3 earrings per ear, black pants with red belts, black boots, red ring around tail"
  • His staff appears when energy is channeled through his pendant, and it can be dispelled at will.
  • Old Charahub blurb: "One of the only survivors of his tribe, a force of darkness permeates his mind and brings war to their neighboring planet."
