The Utangard, or 'outside the enclosure,' represents the wildest and most untamed parts of nature. It consists of the Children of Ymir, their allies, and anyone else native to the Northern Heavens that is ambivalent or malicious to mortals. The Children of Ymir are known as the Jötnar. They are known for holding dominion over the forces of nature, their affinity for shapeshifting, and their prodigious strength that rivals the most powerful gods. The Jötnar reside on Jotunheim, Muspelheim, Niflheim, and Utgard.
The Utangard worlds of Jotunheim, Muspelheim, Niflhem, and Svartalfheim have formed an alliance called the Røkksþing. The other Utangard worlds have no alliance but to themselves.
