There are many kinds of vættr, or nature spirit, that inhabit the Northern Heavens. These nature spirits are all part of the Utangard, however unlike the Jötnar, they are generally respected and even revered. They can be found on almost every realm, even the Innangard realms. While many variants exist, the largest groups include the landvættir (forest spirits), bergbui (mountain spirits), and nicor (water spirits).
The bergbui, also known as cliff-dwellers, live in mountainous or volcanic regions. They stand 10' tall and sustain themselves on a diet of minerals. Their rocky bodies are almost impossible to penetrate and impervious to heat. They are a proud warrior race.
The landvættir are child-sized spirits who live enchanted forests called Sacred Groves. They are deeply tied to nature, so much so that plants grow out of their skin. They are deft and nimble, slipping through the forests effortlessly. They are not warriors and will always run rather than fight.
The nicor are water spirits that live in the seas and oceans of many realms in the Northern Heavens. They are similar to other mythological water spirits such as mermaids or undine. They have enchanting voices, are skilled with instruments, and overall are adept musicians. They are well known for luring mortals to their deaths by playing music for them or by shapeshifting into bækhest and tricking mortals into climbing onto their backs. The nicor build their kingdoms and other settlements underwater.
