July 9th - August 27th, 2023

This summer, a big tournament will be held on the fields of Mead, to celebrate the King’s birthday and provide some cheer and entertainment for the people of Ivras… and if it can help smooth over any political wrinkles, well, isn’t that what some friendly competition is for?

Every noble worth their name will be there, and delegations from Nymene and Siregal have been invited as well.

There will be jousting, sword fighting, archery competitions, food and songs and dancing. Entertainers and performers, merchants and market stands, and of course, Mead’s speciality: mead!

Excitement has been brewing for weeks, and in every corner of Mead, the preparations are afoot. Every tavern has been scrubbed until gleaming; merchants have filled their stores and warehouses to the brim; tents and pavilions have been erected to house the incoming storm of visitors: nobles and commoners alike.

The mead is flowing, food has been prepared, the ale has been brewed. Entertainment troupes, theater companies, and bands of musicians have all arrived.

Let the banners and flags be unfurled, let the trumpets sing: as the day dawns bright and clear, let the games begin!

🎪

but trouble may be brewing...

The Prince-consort Sabora, together with Enchanter Guro, has lobbied tirelessly for an event where mages are welcome; Archon Miriam, on the other hand, has fought back against this with nail and tooth. In the end, a compromise has been made: any mage who can prove they are associated with the Order will be welcomed and allowed to participate.

But where there is a will, there is a way… Guards may be bribed, disguises can be worn, Witchfinders can be convinced to look the other way.

(All characters are of course welcome to participate, regardless of background. Any IC consequences are entirely up to you!)

the tournament 🔸 💠 🔸

Everyone will have a chance to sign up and compete in the tournament!

  • Sign up a character for the tournament by commenting on this bulletin—either as a Chance Encounter or as Rivals.
  • If you picked Chance Encounter, your character will be randomly matched with another player’s character. View your opponent here!
  • If you’d prefer not to be matched with a stranger, no problem—select Rivals, and you can pair up with someone you already know and receive the same event bonuses to your gold count.
  • When you receive your match, let the games begin! Write or draw your character and their opponent, and what they are competing in. Maybe a physical challenge—a duel, an archery competition, a jousting match; or perhaps a battle of skill—a singing contest, a show of acrobatics, playing the lute?
  • Submissions should consist of at least two uncolored headshots or at least 200 words, featuring both characters. Roleplays and collabs are welcome!
  • After you and your partner have completed your submissions, be sure to collect your gold!
  • You may participate with as many characters as you like, both mages and nonmages!

Please sign up for a Chance Encounter before the 16th of July, when matchups will be generated; Rivals can sign up anytime during the event.

Rewards: Every piece made for the tournament will earn double gold, and if your character participates in the event, they may display the event badge on their profile!

story prompt 1

As your character wanders through the crowd, they see someone slip behind one of the tents. As they get another glimpse, they realize it’s a well-known Wild mage, recognised to be an opponent against the Order’s policies. The mage seems to be avoiding the guards patrolling the event grounds.

What does your character do about it?

  1. The Order mages at the event should be made aware of this. Your character has earned +1 Discipline.
  2. Better keep quiet and don’t draw attention to them nor yourself. Your character has earned -1 Cost. If they already have 0 Costs, you may choose to give them +1 Corruption instead.
  3. Blackmail them. Your character has earned +1 Corruption.
  4. Help them out in whatever way you can. Your character has earned +1 Power.

Prompt responses must be worth at least 1 gold (i.e. at least 100 words or at least an uncolored headshot).

story prompt 2

The celebrations and activities of the Grand Tourney are in full swing. Nobles and common folks alike are entertained and delighted by the displays of skills and sportsmanship of the tournament participants, the food and drink is flowing, and the weather is holding steady at sunny and clear. Various groups and factions seem to have set their differences aside to enjoy the occasion.

More than one observer would say that the King's plan to smooth some political wrinkles is working... until today.

The news spread quickly over the tournament grounds: the trade attaché from the Siregalese delegation was found murdered, along with the body of a servant. Theories, rumors, and gossip spread quickly. Archon Miriam has been heard blaming Wild Mages, whom she’s certain has infiltrated the event; others are not so sure.

The King’s Guard has started an investigation. Does your character help or hinder their work?

  1. If approached, they will do what they can to help the investigation. Your character has earned +1 Discipline.
  2. They won’t talk to the guards, but they will do some sleuthing on their own. Your character has earned +1 Power.
  3. They would prefer to not be involved at all. Your character has earned -1 Cost. If they already have 0 Costs, you may choose to give them +1 Corruption instead.
  4. Hinder the guards in any way possible—they have their own reasons to delay the investigation. Your character has earned +1 Corruption.

Prompt responses must be worth at least 1 gold (i.e. at least 100 words or at least an uncolored headshot).
