August 2023 Roundup

The wheel turns, and autumn is now behind the corner, though summer still holds Ivras in its gentle embrace.

Say hello to the latest inhabitants of Ivras, read about what’s been happening, and of course, a new story prompt!

🎪 ⚔️ Event: the grand tourney

The grand tournament, held on the fields outside of Mead to celebrate the King’s birthday, is over. It was a politically ambivalent event, with various factions arguing behind the scenes, not helped by the gruesome murder of an important diplomat.

The investigation into the crime has not yielded any results, yet, but rumors and gossip are spreading… and they are certainly not helped by what happened just as the Tourney was coming to an end.

Find the rewards for the story prompts, and the Event Badge, here!

📯 great hunt: the wasting miasma

On the very last day of the Tourney, just as the final winner of the competitions was about to be crowned, a monster erupted from the midst of the audience.

Mead, and the fields outside the walls where the Tourney was held, is covered in a thick, strange fog, which witnesses have described as magical and dangerous.

Join the fight here!

🧮 new: great hunt damage calculator

Want to join the hunt but think math is hard? Or are you confused by the way we calculate damage? Or do you simply want a handy and fast way to see how much monster butt you kicked?

Then this is for you! Thanks to our lovely mod Tiyre, we now have a handy google spreadsheet to calculate your character’s damage (or aid!).

Find it here! Don’t forget to make a copy of it if you want to use it ✨If you have any questions, let us know!

💖 mod team changes

Two of our staff members, seeliesylph and mercuriel-art, have sadly departed the mod team. Seelie has been part of the team since the very beginning of Anathema, and I can't thank her enough for her countless contributions during these years.

Merc has been part of the team since the start of this year. A big thanks to him for his work on prompts and content!

I hope we will see both of you around the server as players!! 🥰🧡💖

📚 upcoming: lore drive!!

Sharpen your pens and crinkle your brains, this autumn we will hold another LORE DRIVE, and gather all your amazing ideas for the world of Ivras! The best ideas might win some fabulous prizes >:)

More info to come!

📌 notes and reminders

A note on communication
Roleplay and collaborations are great fun, and clear communication and respect for each others’ boundaries and wishes make it even more so. Always make sure you and your writing partner(s) are comfortable, especially if roleplays touch upon such things as violence, trauma, and darker themes in general. If in doubt, always ask about each others’ preferences!

Questions to staff
If you have a question you want answered by a staff member, we ask you to use #ask-staff or Modmail instead of DMing them directly. Individual staff members may be busy or unavailable, and you are more likely to get a timely answer that way!

Logging prompt responses
When you add entries to your character’s log, make sure you link the prompt response, not the event bulletin or prompt comment! We need to be able to see that you did the prompt : )

✨ september 2023 story prompt

Every month, we provide a brief narrative prompt, with four potential choices for your character to make. Draw or write your character's choice, and receive double gold for your response! Mages will earn a mystery stat point based on their choices, which will be revealed with the next month's prompt.

Prompt responses should tag this profile, and must be worth at least 1 gold of art or writing. Collaborations and roleplay are not valid responses to the monthly Story Prompt.

September 2023 Story Prompt:

At the tail end of summer, berry bushes and fruit trees begin sag beneath their abundant offerings, and the wheat fields are turning golden. Harvest season this year promises to be generous, a far cry from last year’s meager yield.

Even if summer lingers in Ivras, preparations for a colder season are never far behind.

How does your character prepare for winter?

  1. Simply enjoy the season for what it is. Your character has earned -1 Cost. If they already have 0 Costs, you may chose to give them +1 Corruption instead.
  2. Mourn the end of long summer days. Your character has earned +1 Discipline.
  3. Why stock up yourself when you can let others do the hard work? Your character has earned +1 Corruption.
  4. They make sure they are doing all they can to get ready for winter. Your character has earned +1 Power.

Prompt responses must be worth at least 1 gold (i.e. at least 100 words or at least an uncolored headshot).
Upload your response like any other art or literature submission, tag this character profile, and claim your gold; collect double your total count for prompt responses. You may submit collabs and RP as prompt responses, but every participating character's choice must be clearly indicated for mods.
