November 2023 Roundup

The Ivratian seasons continue their slow march, and after a mild and foggy autumn, this winter seems like it will be uncommonly cold. But the harvests have been excellent, and shelves and storehouses are filled to the brim—no one is likely to starve this season.

The southern archipelago has already seen snowfall, and a light dusting of snow is expected as far north as Faline. Tailors and cloth merchants may see an uptick in business as people scramble to keep warm.

Read on for a new legendary character, new characters to welcome, and many other things!

💫 new legendary character: labrea

Another Legendary Character is here! Labrea, the Weeping Colossus, has entered the pages of Anathema's history books. The Ivras timeline has been updated with the following:

Winter 1235: Soon after the Wasting Miasma fell, another monster was spotted: The Night-Cursed Crone, located in the southwestern Sunless Jungle. It was brought down quickly, with minimal loss of life and property.

During the hunt, it was first thought that there were two monsters—The Crone and another: The Weeping Colossus. It quickly became clear, though, that the latter was actually a mage, aiding in the efforts of taking down the monster and protecting the inhabitants of the area. After landing the killing blow, songs and tales of her and her heroic deed quickly spread—a monster hunting monsters. Despite her fame, nobody seems to know her name.

Legendary characters like Labrea are created by purchasing a Tattered Banner at the Ley Lodge!

📯 great hunt: the night-cursed crone

Stillness yet again reigns over the Jungle. The Night-Cursed Crone has been soundly defeated, with a minimal loss of life and property, much to everyone's relief. According to rumours, a great deal of the hunters' success was because of an enterprising potion-seller, whose wares helped turn the tide of battle.

Influential voices have already been raised against Miriam's policies against potions, and it is likely that the prohibition of potions, elixirs, and cordials will be eased in the coming weeks.

Mage reputation has gone up, as has the Order's slightly battered standing, owing to its heroic mage protectors. Already new tales are being spun during the ongoing Harvest Masquerade, stories of how a creature of black tar felled the beast, helped by a silver-weaver and a storm-caller…

📌 notes and reminders

Tech level?
The level of technology in Ivras is akin to the real-world 16th century. This is not an aesthetic rule (please design whatever clothes, etc. you like!), just a guideline for the advances in machinery/weaponry (incl. firearms)/architecture available for your creation.

The Ivratian climate
Ivras is situated in the southern hemisphere, which means that north = warm, and south = cold! (How does this work with the seasons? Who knows. Magic)

december 2023 - january 2024 player-made story prompt:

Posters have started to appear around Faline, deep red with masks drawn on them. They’re unreadable by non-mages, but a mage may read the following text:

THE DANCING MARKET
GRAND RE-OPENING
All mages and mage sympathizers invited

One way or another, your character finds out about this market and decides to go there.

Why does your character enter the market?

  1. They’ve never heard of this before and are curious what it’s all about! They wear the rabbit mask. Your character has earned +1 Discipline.
  2. This is surely a place to meet like-minded people, and perhaps make the connections they need. They put on the grinning mask. Your character has earned +1 Power.
  3. Sounds like a party, let’s go dance! They wear the elegant mask. Your character has earned -1 Cost. If they already have 0 Costs, you may choose to give them +1 Corruption instead.
  4. An illegal gathering underground? They go down to investigate and report this to the right authorities, of course. They put on the blinded mask. Your character has earned +1 Corruption.

Prompt responses must be worth at least 1 gold (i.e. at least 100 words or at least an uncolored headshot).
Upload your response like any other art or literature submission, tag this character profile, and claim your gold; collect double your total count for prompt responses. You may submit collabs and RP as prompt responses, but every participating character's choice must be clearly indicated for mods.

December 2023 Story Prompt:

Winter has come to Ivras, and it seems it will be an uncommonly cold one, bringing frosty mornings and steamy breaths.

Normally, Ivratian winters are quite mild, with only the southernmost parts of the country getting what one would consider proper snow; this season, areas as far north as Faline are expected to get a light dusting and freezing temperatures, at least at night.

What does your character think about the winter weather?

  1. With the right equipment, cold weather is no problem. Your character has gained +1 Discipline.
  2. As long as they are warm, they don’t care if someone else is freezing. Your character has gained +1 Corruption.
  3. Cold temperatures are best endured by a warm fire. Your character has gained -1 Cost. If they already have 0 Costs, you may choose to give them +1 Corruption instead.
  4. Cold doesn’t bother them. Your character has gained +1 Power.
