What are some of your peeves in Toyhouse profiles?

My own pet peeves when it comes to viewing people's toyhou.se profiles is when people use an image in the thumbnail and then not include it in the gallery.

It's annoying because sometimes the image in the thumbnail is a really good picture or even reference worthy and I just can't see it because it's not a viewable image. I have always made a big point in my profile design to include the character's thumbnail in my gallery or just dont have a thumbnail at all.

What are some things that peeve you off when viewing profiles?

(remember not to just target certain people! this is just a thread for getting things off your chest and maybe even helping others create more legible profiles!)

That being said, NONE OF THIS SHOULD BE TAKEN OFFENSIVELY

profiles with multiple small scrolling boxes next to each other are hell for me. I have wrist issues so having to carefully aim my mouse and scroll each box sucks, plus narrow and tall text areas are hard to read in the first place. profiles with a bunch of really small button toggles too, to a lesser extent.

completely empty profiles / unedited default templates also bother me a little, because I clicked in the first place specifically so I can read the lore behind the cool design and it turns out there just... isn't any. just a single sentence about the character's core concept would be great!

Caine Thank you for your input, I think what you said in your last paragraph is even more interesting; considering I would indeed like to not be spoiled about a profile contents in a warning, so a spoiler would be great to see! And thank you for the tip to look through lists to see if something can be a potential trigger or not!

On another note, unfinished bios don't bother me, but I'm not the greatest example, as I don't think I could/can say I finished them. In my opinion, things are always moving and slowly falling into place, I sometimes add or modify things on bios that could be seen as finished. I also have many characters, so many bios to make (+ a lot of refs but that's not the problem here haha), so even if I already wrote their bios a long time ago, it was in French, and I still need to translate everything in English. I usually try to write at least the bare minimum about a character's personnality not long after I submit a new character so that other people can at least get an idea of what they're like. I would love to hear which character I should put more info about first, to share the story of an interesting character instead of an OC that no one truely likes all that much. Also, if a character has nothing in his bio except their ref, it would be because they're less important to me than the others, even if they're in my main characters. (Speaking of "main", I don't mind such folder names, like "secondary" etc. I think it highlights pretty easily their importance, there's a higher chance of a "main" character to be put into a story than a "secondary" character after all. I don't see why that's a problem? However, I agree that too many folders isn't the best way to go)

So yeah, I don't mind unfinished bios. I undertand some people work slower than others here, or that they have other things to do. I wouldn't want someone to intensely work on a profile before starting another one or even taking a break to come on the forums; they have the right to have fun too :)

• People who are selling their characters, but they have lots of folders in folders. Like, there's one folder per price range, and then each of these folders contains folders that are like "feral", "anthro", "human" and "humanoid", and again the "feral" folder will be divided into "canines", "felines", "CS", etc etc....  and sometimes like half of these folders are actually empty? Come on, if I have to click on 27 folders just to see what you're selling, I'm definitely not bother to buy anything from you. And of course these are not sale-dedicated accounts then I can't just click the "see all" thing.

• Profiles that are like "don't visit my profile if you are white/cis/terf/trump-supporter/whatever". Like.... Come on.... You're on a public website. Everyone can access your profile. You'll have to deal with it. And if you're rejecting people due to their gender or race.... eh.... well... I mean, that's not today's topic.

• Unnecessary warnings. You know, the ones that pop up on your page to say "DUN STEAL MAH CHARACTERS!!". I mean. Of course. I know this. Everyone know it's not okay to steal characters. They ones who steal know they're doing wrong, they just don't care. Then, do you really think your warning will prevent them from stealing anything? Keep that feature for real warnings.

• Abusive watermarks. I mean, ok, you don't want your art to be stolen, but I still want to look at it? This is especially annoying for characters for sale. Sometimes, the image is so small and so clustered with watermarks I can't even see the design? Okay, won't buy, then.

• Empty profiles. Like, they have a profile pic and that's it. Sometimes they don't even have a name. I mean, you have one pic for them, at least upload it in their gallery ? The worst is, I often see that for characters for sale. The design is uploaded as a profile picture, but not in the character gallery. How am I supposed to view the design, then ?

• People who heavily change their profile CSS, and I have to look everywhere to find things. Like, where are your character? Okay, now that I entered your character page, where is the godamm "gallery" button? I understand you want to make your profiles unique and pretty, but I think it would be more simple to keep the basic template, so that at least we know where to click...

Totally agree!! Especially with the first one. I wish people used flattened folders like... heck

LittleCoyoteeJeez

Not really a profile pet peeve perse

But I'm really starting to get irritated when people who supposably blocked me reply to me on a thread.

This happened to me recently on a game called "I want to see a user who" or something like that and come on. I really wanted to see what they replied. XC

Hey, just a quick question, I have a couple characters who have things like flashing lights or needles/medical equipment in their stimboards so I spoil it with a warning, is that ok? I don’t want to seem too obnoxious

malaquill

Mercenary_Ike if there’s a warning / spoiler, you’re probably ok!

Now, for a pet peeve of my own... idr if I brought it up on this thread already, but tiny text! I can’t read it!

i get it. i get the appeal. but when the entire site changes when i click on your profile or characters, it just disorientates me. where are the buttons? why is the scroll bar so small? where even is the gallery? i wish there was an option to disable it client side, so they could still use it but i didn't have to see it.
