What is the person above's trademark?

(Related threads: What are your trademark character archetypes, What Do You Like About The Above User's OCs?, ☀️ Say something nice about above user's art)

I often find that a lot of people have themes and signature elements across all their creations that make them identifiable as theirs. There are a few threads around where we get to talk about our own trademarks, but I think it'd also be cool to find out what makes your creations unique and recognisable to other people. You might even learn something you never noticed about your own work!

How to participate: Look through the person above's OCs and works, and tell them what you think their trademark is. How can you always tell that an OC/art/writing was created by them? What stands out about their work that makes it recognisable as theirs, and no one else's?

  • Themes and tropes that they're fond of?
  • Personality types and physical traits that a lot of their OCs share?
  • A recognisable art style?

More detail is always appreciated. You can talk about designs, art style, writing style, and even all of those at once!

Rules:

  • Focus on OC profiles, art, literature and designs. Less focus on details that haven't got much to do with their creative work, e.g. their online identity, icon, profile themes (unless they made them themselves), and posting habits.
  • You can still mention these, of course—just say something about the user's creations first.
  • This is a compliment thread so please be kind and don't take this as an opportunity to diss people!

One of the biggest thing to me that stands out is your art style. It is very distinctive with it's emphasis on anatomy, detailed line art and dark colours.  Whenever I see one of your drawings I can always tell it's yours! You character appear to have a sort of comic book/science-fantasy/sci-fi influence to them with a serious tone which is something else I associate with your work

You really put the science fiction into...science fiction. You've got a lot of both going on from what I’ve read. You lean heavily towards fantasy for sure; but your appreciation for science is very present, as well as generally smart characters.

You also have a lot of mystery involved, as well as overall themes of escapism into a world unknown. Overall I'd say your trademark is a rather fairytale- like whimsy?

The colors you use in your art further cement this for me.

@seolfor Holy heck, one thing I must praise about your CSS is that, it's really good?? Like, it's almost as if I stepped into an official site for a movie or game or something. The frames on your characters' pics are especially A+

Back on topic, I'll start with the artstyle--I love the "sketchy" style of yours, it works a lot with your characters' design that are quite realistic, but still have their own distinct features such as the pointy ears, the hairstyles, etc. It really reminds me a lot of those books that's centered around the medieval setting. I would definitely consider it a trademark of yours.

For your writing, I felt like it's definitely your strongest point? Your detailed writing on each of the characters' bios; and how each of their pages/sections is filled with information. Since I see that you're also working on a novel, (that's already 49 chapters--which I give applaud to) it's no surprise that their profiles is written in a quite narrative, literature-like way rather than a simple/casual bio you usually see in most OCs' profiles. Especially for your characters' "history" section... It's a trademark of yours to jot down every details of their history/development in a narrative way. That's quite inspiring, I'd say! I also see that you included an "art refs" tab for your characters too--and even for something like wardrobes or physical features, you still write all of those in full detail; and I would say that providing as much information for your characters as possible while merging them with your writing skills is definitely a strong trademark of yours. That's quite the dedication, honestly.

Mentioning the CSS again, I like how each of the characters have their own themes (the change of colors and background when you click on each of the characters), which gives a lot more personality into your profiles too? Your profiles may have a lot of text, but the themes and CSS for each of the individual profiles helps distinct them apart, making each of them more easier to recognize even if there's more text than image on your characters. Ahh, all your trademarks are definitely not something you see in a lot of profiles, and again, I admire your dedication and skills on writing your characters this much :'D

Edit: What. I didn't notice I wrote this long but ahgdhafd omg

Alright I'm in the middle of putting CSS/HTML template on all of my characters' profiles but the ones with this tag is pretty much waiting for me to update them ahdgha You're free to judge from either the completed or WIP ones, though! Just informing that for uh, convenience since more than half of them are still waiting for a rehaul lol

gummy

the short version: early 2000s shonen anime.

your artstyle and your main(?) story line has a similar feel to a shonen from that time period, suck as the spiky hair and the color schemes present in your characters. Im assuming from this you really like 2000's anime? (gives me a big yu-gi-oh feeling overall....and a little bit of chobits too?? but im getting off topic.)

Another trademark is the way you highlight the hair. its very recognizably you from it, and is another thing from you that gives me the 2000s vibe i suppose?

Daruby

I do not know how to accurately determine the theme of your characters, but they are clearly pseudo-anime + with a pinch of reality, because some of your OCs felt like I could find such a person on the street. Disregarding details like horns, of course! Each character has its own theme, so I don't know, really :"D You are definitely more comfortable working with humanoids and I can relate.

I remember you mostly because of planetarium and your nickname - Gummy. :"D When I see your nickname and icon from afar I immediately know: Oh, It's definitely gummy.

Your artstyle is shaping still, but I already see you having your trademarks with how you draw faces and such! I'd love to see you try drawing more finished artwork instead of mostly sketching. I believe that you can do even better! <3

I'M CRYING,,, I WILL PRINT THESE WORDS AND I WILL BE READING THEM ALWAYS WHEN I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH DRAWING SOMETHING,,, I'm so motivated hhghghgh,g,,,,, Thank you so much q___q

ok i'm not sure how to explain this properly, but u have really distinct and unique characters and parts of them make up ur trademark if that makes sense? like sharp teeth, pointy ears, bright colours against dark, and patterns on the face :00 i always know what OCs belong to u bc of that! it's a really neat character aesthetic u have tbh

Long wide ears, aside from humans that is. You seem to like long wide ears when it comes to other species! As an alternative, most of your characters also have large fins and sometime horns. I haven't seen any user who has given most of their ocs wide ears so that stands out to me. Another thing about your characters is about their colours. you seem to use muted colours for your ocs. Realistic skin colour for your humans. Can't forget your fantrolls and other FCs lol. Among your characers, your fancharacter doesn't really follows the rule of the setting they are in and manages to make them unique in your own way. It's really nice tbh

For your art, the way you draw lips just really stand out. Not alot of artist (including me) draws lips in a very realistic way (like putting pink/brown on a character's lips) so it's cool and somewhat pleasing to see it. You also like to shade the neck, precisely below the characters head with black or the same colours as you used for your outlines. Speaking of lines, your weights and opacity in lines stands out. The details on your linework makes your artwork satisfying to see! Can't forgot those oval pinkish blush. it's a cute lil detail and somewhat makes the piece, cute!

I feel like I have learned to associate your planet characters as your trademark of sort, as they're the first characters I saw from you and they're so distinctively unique and different from what I usually see! Like there is this strong preference for distinct shapes I can see in them and in your other characters as well, with easy-to-recognize silhouettes as a result of that (I especially associate you with round shapes though, perhaps because of the planet characters again).

Speaking of your characters, I have come to notice a lot of them seem to have pretty heavy backstories? Like not angsty or anything, just... there is often a distinct source of grief or anxiety in their past, whether it's an illness or a departure of a loved person. But despite that I never feel bummed out or anything when I read them, because very often the characters still try their hardest to keep on going, even if it's sometimes through what people at least perceive as a denial. I guess a certain kind of melancholy is the exact mood I'm looking for, the kind where there are no definite answers, nor right or wrong emotions.

And I really like it, to be honest. I feel like your trademark is the way you can make people self reflect, in a way I can't quite explain but I really admire it

Aahh oh gosh thank you so much ;__; < 33

I'm honestly super surprised about the dainties because I feel like I neglect mine a lot and don't interact much in the community, but it's true I have tried my hardest to make them characters I could be happy with!!

It's so cool Claude is like one of the first characters you have seen here tho omg I feel so honored? But I'm also sorry it had to be my stink boy garbage man you had to see lMAO

I'd say your brand is aliens, 100%. Some happy, some sad, but I feel like you're more of a fan of the morally good types based on your ocs? I got the impression most of them are autistic in some way as well. I feel like the best summary is autistic, generally cheery aliens for you.

What connects a great portion of your art together is the lineart. It's always very colourful, and never solid black or even very dark. This kind of gives each image "theme colours".

The way you stylise human figures is also a trademark: a lot of them are kind of in between realistic and chibi proportions. I'm also noticing there's lots of pink, purple and light blue in your designs, and a lot of your characters, who are otherwise ordinary humans, often have very brightly-coloured hair.

It also seems that your style in profile-writing is to (often) go into detail about specific interests that the OCs are very passionate about. In a sense, they're all themed around their interests, and that's what's most memorable about them!

1000% above everythign else is your art. Although you have a very memorable username. XD

For you art, you have a very unique way of drawing. I notice that you elongate faces and usually use pretty thin lines. Your work has humor added and you tend to add quite a bit of nsfw (one of the things I tend to remember quite well.) Your art is very refreshing as I have never. ever. ever. seen someone draw liek you and I can't pinpoint any inspiration you draw from? You can tell with most people what they were obviously inspired by. But you, Beefy, are a mystery and I love it.
