What is the person above's trademark?

(Related threads: What are your trademark character archetypes, What Do You Like About The Above User's OCs?, ☀️ Say something nice about above user's art)

I often find that a lot of people have themes and signature elements across all their creations that make them identifiable as theirs. There are a few threads around where we get to talk about our own trademarks, but I think it'd also be cool to find out what makes your creations unique and recognisable to other people. You might even learn something you never noticed about your own work!

How to participate: Look through the person above's OCs and works, and tell them what you think their trademark is. How can you always tell that an OC/art/writing was created by them? What stands out about their work that makes it recognisable as theirs, and no one else's?

  • Themes and tropes that they're fond of?
  • Personality types and physical traits that a lot of their OCs share?
  • A recognisable art style?

More detail is always appreciated. You can talk about designs, art style, writing style, and even all of those at once!

Rules:

  • Focus on OC profiles, art, literature and designs. Less focus on details that haven't got much to do with their creative work, e.g. their online identity, icon, profile themes (unless they made them themselves), and posting habits.
  • You can still mention these, of course—just say something about the user's creations first.
  • This is a compliment thread so please be kind and don't take this as an opportunity to diss people!

claim! i'll work on this around tomorrow morning!

The first thing I'll bring up is the fact that all your characters have a emoji in their page's name which relates to the character in some way, which I find really unique and creative! Your artstyle is very recognizable too, Although I can't quite figure out why, I think it may be how varied yet recognizable the way you draw faces is. Your colouring style also is a big part about your artstyle being unique. Back to the character thing, I also like how your characters seem to mostly have themes based off said emoji that's in their name. Most of them also seem to follow this pattern of having a kinda short yet stylish outfit!

You seem to really like technology-related OCs! Androids, cyborgs, TV heads and the like! I also notice quite a lot of supernatural characters such as vampires and demons (especially demons; you have some great concepts for them!), so I'd say that design-wise, humanoid (but not human) designs are your trademark?

Bio-wise, I noticed that despite the generally cute and innocent-looking art, a lot of your characters seem to deal with darker themes! Especially Ducky. Wow. ;-; Pwease protecc

obviously urs is ur religious/angel OCs! they're no doubt ur trademark and they're really iconic i think! they've stood out to me even way back when i first started using the forums :0 also this guy

art wise, ur trademark is the round faces/overall cute simple style! like in the sense that ur art is super easy on the eyes and nice to look at bc it's not overly complex u know? another thing that could be considered a trademark is pastels as all ur art seems to use more pastel colours rather than overly saturated ones and ur profile is very pastel too!

Your art style is a trademark in and of itself. I can't explain it really, but I can see a piece of yours and know you drew it. It's very unique. The use of somewhat muted colors over bold colors is also a trademark. Your characters have got quite a few trademarks, too. One thing is that you have more fan characters than most users I've seen on this site, and from different fandoms, too. Even on DA, I don't see this variety since most people tend to stick to one or two fandoms, so that's good. Also, the bettas are super iconic, especially Sammy and Phoenicis. It's great how you love your bettas enough to make characters out of them to cherish even after the fish die.

You have a very distinctive art style—all your characters are made up primarily of round shapes, and I think this is particularly clear from the shapes of the snouts. You also have clean, dark lines and the way you draw eyes is quite consistent, either ovals or completely shaded in with one solid colour.

Character-wise, your trademark is quirky, usually-reptilian characters. Among them there's quite a variety of personalities and powers but they all remind me of characters from a cartoon series.

Oh, and none of them have visible ears! That's the thing I was trying to pin down. It's a very recognisable thing about your designs even though it's not the most significant.

Thank you! I'm glad you think the way I draw faces is recognisable. And thank you for your compliments!

I guess this probably has been mentioned before but I seem to notice the lack of super bright/neon colors in your usual color choices. Even for Mort whose color palette looks to be neon with aqua and fuchsia(?), you still manage to make them easy on eyes. One thing that stood out to me, which is one of the reasons that I love your art, is how efficient and precise sense of lighting and rendering you show through your art. Also, I feel the way you draw your characters' face is quite a trademark on its own because i feel it's a rather distinguish part of your style.

One last thing I'd like to say about your art is that your gallery shows that you're a flexible artist who's capable to draw in quite a number of different styles (pixel art, lineless paintery, cel-shade, animation etc.) and then able to combine some of those together to make an interesting mix.

On your OCs and their background stories, I see that the themes are usually something deep and require serious thought on them. The hints I saw are history, politics, human nature/psychology and something about structure of human social behavior and also folklore (mainly from the Nocturna plot).

Thank you! :) Yep, you certainly got that correct about my art. Since I'm pretty terrible at drawing comic (you know...I'm just no good that deciding 'camera angle' thing that is like a basic sense for comic artists). Therefore I opt to present my plots and the characters' art more similar to how novels format - mainly with writing to describe events and draw pictures only to illustrate a certain scene or what the characters look like.

As what I've seen from your characters, all of them are designed in a civil-like fashion, as well as historically! Your art is really nice, with smooth dark shading, and drawn n a clean, semi-realistic style. All this would most definitely fit in a work of literature, most likely a novel!

Omg thank you so much for this!! You're the best person I've ever met.

-I realized that we probably have similar interest in colorful game (or anime)-inspired OCs! Similar to the direction of Digimon or Danganronpa's characters, each character designs are very unique yet not out of place and still fits in the same universe.... Admittedly, I really adore character designs like that! (You also don't limit your characters to only humans either, which is great considering your "variety" trademark in designs.)

-I also like how each of the characters does look like they could fit in an actual video game design, specifically Kingdom Hearts, Megaman and the likes--that I feel like it should be a trademark of yours too ^^ (And judging from their profiles, they seems to have connection with D&D and video games too.)

-Your profiles are also simple, but straight to the point. The addition of stats and gameplay style is a very nice detail to your OCs, reminds me of those wikis you'd check for comparing stats and strategies of each of these characters.

Overall, your characters are very unique, but they remain in a consistent style and theme....which I really adore ;;

Edit: whoops, I forgot to mention about artstyle too--all of them have a solid choice of color pallete; nothing to saturated, but nothing too bold or flashy either! I don't see much issue in same-face syndrome and your pixels just enhance more of the fact that your OCs are based around the video games theme. (Again, I also see the variety in your characters--your non-humanoid character designs are fun to look at.) In other words, it's a fitting artstyle that really fits well with your OCs' stories~

Aaaa Kogami tbh I find your art style very iconic and I can always say a character is yours when I see one of them around! Ofc it's anime but the pointy hair and the vibrant colours make me think of some series like Yu-Gi-Oh, same with the overall clothing style c:

You seem to give a great importance to world building and character relationships/dynamics, which is great! Your projects seem to be very anime-inspired, with a slight touch of mythology. It also looks like most of your characters have a rough past/darker background, which you hide under a spoiler... a bit like they would hide it under an happy facade in-universe, which I found pretty clever!

Omg tysm you're too nice?? ;o;

fizzelston

Your detailed but soft characters are def your trademark. Everyone single one of them has a detailed background while being written as flawed individuals, with their own goals quirks and motivation. Having rather young/teen characters is a trademark of you too. The ages however really fit the types of personalities you write!

Your characters are fun to read about and interact with. They are unique and really pop out in the Toyhouse bunch

You use a lot of earthly pastel colours in your art and your art is round and soft to look at if that makes any sense?

Overall I think your a great creator and I cannot want to see more of your art, writing and maybe someday comics!

HDHEFAF my story actually takes place in a misty harbor town I'm crying how did u KNOW

But thank you so much <3!

Caine

fizzelston Definitely your color palettes! Large majority of your characters seems to have very natural colors tinting towards brown, which I personally really love a lot!! I also seem to associate you very strongly with sailors and other sea-dwellers for some reason, like I have this really specific mental image of like this foggy little town with a lighthouse and the people walking around wearing rain jackets and whatnot and you can hear the siren of a boat somewhere far in the distance

Throughout your OCs I can also see this really delightful mixture of very realistic characters who also have a more ridiculous side to them! I think it creates a very natural and memorable combination of "I can totally imagine meeting these characters in real life and they all have something funny or positively bizarre about them that makes them super memorable" and it's something I super appreciate in characters!

I think one of your trademarks is also your sense of humor! It's really hard for me to explain for some reason but all the side comments and remarks definitely make your character bios more interesting to read and you can never know what is coming next? I love it. I also love the fact you describe the build of your characters with unconventional terms like wet noodle and bean because it's like... you hardly see those used but at the same time I know exactly what you mean by them?? A true power

Art-wise, I can always recognize a character of yours by this 90's? style of theirs. 90's combined with fairytale book illustrations. I'm no artist so I can't quite explain it correctly, but there's always this softness to them? Soft lines and a warm hue of the colors, even when there's a dark palette!

Character-wise they mainly lean towards the youthful side and look the part too. There's no defining archetype since you're very versatile with different personalities and backgrounds, but I will say that when I see a character of yours I know I won't be fed a cliche story. There may be some that have a trope commonly used (I mean everyone's going to have characters like that) but your characters deal with them in realistic ways. Talks of politics, depth in family and friend relationships, backstories for items, things like these are things I wouldn't even think about and it shows great depth and worldbuilding. It's kind of reminiscent, to me, of the Fallout series, how every single thing has a larger purpose and how it all intertwines. I'm getting an enjoyable story, but there are at least a hundred more stories I can explore. I know I'll always get this enjoyable experience with your characters!

as;ldfj;asdj you're a blessing, story. A BLESSING
