Cas' Memories
Numb
Sometimes it surprises her, how little she seems to feel.
It made sense with the other children. Their memories lingered in that cave, reminders of their existence she found it easy to ignore. But she didn't meet their families. She didn't watch them die.
A child orphaned by the Grey, in many ways like she had been. A father covered in pale patches she could recognize from anywhere, his daughter clinging close behind his tail, too young to even understand.
It should evoke something in her. Some empathy, looking at a mirror of herself, someone who's soon to lose the only person they have. Some sympathy, knowing what they're going through. Some understanding from someone who understands more than most.
When the child smiles up at her, she has to tear her eyes away.
Because she feels nothing at all.
