Information on Nero, Nicholas and Zer!

Nero's backstory was the first I wanted to work on but holy crap I got nowhere with it fast. X_x;.. So excerpts only! Nicholas's backstory. Originally written in like 2018, one part a night. Some nights more parts. I don't remember. It's been years. :P And Zer Oshay's backstory. This one was written shortly after Nicholas's backstory, but I never kinda got anywhere with it.

But also some world info! :)

Nicholas Kestrel - Ch 1: Page 7

Nicholas hid behind an overturned table shortly after entering the casino. Part of him screamed this was the worst decision in his life. Part of him felt this was something he had to do.

He had taken a pistol off of the man who tried to kill him. Was he riding the adrenaline high from that? He had no idea how many bullets were even left. It wasn't a revolver. He looked the pistol over. Ahh, whatever. It seemed to have a magazine, but Nicholas was very inexperienced.

Still. It's point and click. Aim and fire. All guns share that, whether it was an automatic rifle or a pistol.. Speaking of, he was thinking of fighting an unknown amount of people with automatics WITH a pistol.

The screaming part of him was screaming louder and louder, but it quickly shut up when Nicholas fired at one of the gunmen. He got him in the arm he was holding his weapon with, and the surprise of getting shot made him drop his rifle.

But it also got the attention of the other gunmen. They stopped their spree and looked around while the man who was shot screamed and cursed from the pain.

They hadn't seen him.

But they were now on guard.

Nicholas threw a chip, which he had found on the floor nearby, to the other entrance. The sound it made triggered them all to look there as Nicholas sprinted to another position.

It made no sense, despite the panic of a moment ago, it was crazy quiet in the casino hall. "We don't have time for this! We gotta keep moving! The police won't take long to arrive either!"

They.. Still hadn't noticed him? Nicholas sat behind an electronic poker game. He was surprised he got his far. It didn't make sense to him, but of course this entire plan of his hadn't made sense either.

He could now see, from reflections nearby, that there were only five gunmen. One of the others was approaching the man he shot, intent on helping him up, most likely.

"Fuck!" After the sound of another gunshot, that very man buckled over as the shot had caused a sizeable wound in the man's knee. To Nicholas's surprise, as he hadn't even taken a shot. Someone else with the same idea?

Regardless, they were even more on guard now. Throwing another chip wouldn't work again. Nicholas carefully looked at his new intended target, and just as he wanted to shoot, one of the gunmen found themselves with a gunshot wound richer.

This time, however, as it wasn't HIS target, Nicholas used the distraction to shoot his intended target in the arm. He missed.. The arm, at least. His shot hit the gunman straight in the chest.

"Oh shit." Nicholas started to panic. He wanted to disable them, not kill them. But he had to snap out of his stupor, there was one more..

...Except he heard the clatter of a weapon being dropped, and the gunman seemed to give up. He held his hands in the air and shouted that he surrendered. This led to one of the other gunmen to call him a coward, but also to Nicholas slowly looking around.

"You took him out? Nice shooting.." Nicholas raised the pistol towards the person talking, noting a woman in a security outfit. "Whoa there, same team.. I hope?" He lowered the pistol as he noticed her uniform.

"Pardon. Stressful moment. There's another one outside, with a sore jaw." Nicholas sighed.. His hands were now visibly shaking.. He handed over the pistol to the security lady. "You'd better hang onto this."

He couldn't really believe it ended like this. Nicholas sat down on the casino floor and calmed his breathing.. With difficulty. "You got quite lucky there. There's many who shared a worse fate." He looked at the woman as she spoke.

"Many innocent patrons of our fine casino, can't believe it took me this long to get here.." Nicholas nodded.. "That explosion and the vault getting emptied... Hard to believe how well this was planned. Many of their gang already got away, as if these men were just disposable."

Hearing the woman say that got some cursing from the surviving gunmen. Screaming of betrayal, and.. Mostly that they'll tell everything they know. "Well, that sure is helpful, we'll have the entire cartel behind bars in no time."
