daruma-san, or -chan depending who you ask, is a victim of unfortunate circumstances. by all means having a normal life, growing up a timid, somewhat geeky girl. daruma, her living name long forgotten, blended into the masses a salary worker, using any money she didnt use to pay off the rent of her rickety apartment on otaku merchandise. it was a mundane day when she died. she simply slipped and fell one day in the bath, the creaky, rusty faucet plunging deep into her eye socket. but she wasn’t ready to die - her life had been so mundane, she never had the chance to become somebody, amount to what she had hoped to blossom into one day, and so, her ghost ripped out of her body, and began to haunt her apartment.
somehow, the details of her grisly death ended up on sketchy internet forums, gaining her the nickname “daruma-san”. an occult fanatic managed to find her adress, and moved into the place just a month after the incident. encountering her spirit ensured she would never rest in peace: urban legends kept her alive, and straying far further from her home than a ghost is supposed to. it made her lose her sense of self, but never that gentle personality. truly, daruma isn’t dangerous, even if she looks that way.
the hype around her urban legend died down when she simply refused to be summoned, and quickly, occult forums claimed the whole thing was a hoax. the truth is, daruma-san has found a new home, one she is now chained to. if anything, she’s now much more at peace. any ambitions she must have had in her living time have now faded, and it has left her feeling empty. sitting cooped up in the house all day, curtains shut, hands busied with a gaming console... doesn’t it all feel familiar?
