Vasilka

a spirit hailing from eastern europe. vasilka was once the prettiest girl in her village, so much so that from an early youth, boys flocked towards her. upon reaching adolescence, her father began to worry for her - man after man approached her, hoping for her attention - even those already wed. it raised an uproar among the village’s women, and though she never truly did seduce the men on purpose, they would grow to hate her. and thus, her father locked her in the house, clothing her in all black, to conceal her appearance.

however, it seemed to do no good - people knew where she lived, and still, suitors showed up at her window, hoping to catch a glimpse of her. she became like a town legend, chased after for her rumored beauty. it was then that the womenfolk of the village finally had enough, and they set out to deal with their problem once and for all. and so, they broke into her house, and mutilated her beyond recognition. they threw her mirror down beside her body on the floor, so that her own reflection would be the last thing she sees.

the truth is, vasilka never truly bittered through all the hatred. all it brought her was fear, and a deep sorrow, to be despised so for the actions of others. even in the afterlife, she continues to be pestered by others. the strong sadness she felt upon death’s door manifested her spirit into her reflection, and so, she now dwells in mirrors. people have a gag at summoning her for a fortune telling, something she isn’t even highly adept at. but, after such a long time of isolation, she supposes it’s nice, to have some genuine company every now and then, even if most simply startle at her appearance.
