Sumati

sumati was born and raised in a buddhist monastery, originally thought to be a boy, until she mysteriously underwent female puberty. nonetheless, she was allowed to stay within the monastery, and though she came to be a prodigy in martial arts, she estranged more and more from her peers. with time, she became more and more isolated, and though it did wonders for her training and devotion, it left her with loneliness, and a lack of social skill. sumati felt excluded, alienated to an almost painful degree, plagued by the many questions around her body and identity. despite the kindness instructors showed her, sumati eventually had no choice but to leave the monastery. during sparring one day, sumati found herself distracted, and ended up permanently disabling her sparring partner with a poorly aimed strike. it was the shock and guilt from this event that made her flee, but with no place to go to.

in a fortunate twist of fate, she managed to get in contact with a distant relative staying in new york, and fled to the states post-haste, ashamed of potentially disappointing her immediate family. sumati now may live slightly more comfortably, but hasn't much to show for happiness, still. she has little money to her name, and spends most of it on garbage food (which honestly, no complaints there). someday, sumati hopes to find her purpose, but she isn't in any particular rush to chase it herself. it's not like she has friends, or an education, or a long-term job, or, well, anything, really. but hey, she has a gaming pc, so that counts for something, right?
