Apex

the embodiment of the hunt. the apex is an almost mindless entity, existing only to kill. he was born from a human hunter, who perished to the very wolves he set out to hunt. he could slay only one, before the rest of its pack robbed him of his life in turn. in his final moments, he laid on the forest floor, collapsed next to the beast he’d felled. as his blood pooled together with that of the wolf, in a way, so did their spirits. born from this gruesome scene was the apex, a sapient, yet feral spirit, driven by the bloodlust of a predator, but the bestial fear of a cornered animal.

nonetheless, the apex is noble. he enjoys a challenge, and is every once a while summoned by brave, yet often stupid challengers. his game is simple: head out to the woods, and survive. though he knows the fight is rarely ever fair, he cares not for mercy. those who approached him knew what they came here for, after all.

the apex’s appearance has changed over time. always he has been hooded, concealing a gaping maw with flesh rending fangs. nowadays, though, his challengers are in quite a bit of trouble. alongside his knives, spears, and bows, modern technology has provided him with a new toy: firearms. the apex is now deadlier than ever, but because his challengers rarely live to tell the tale, none are quite aware of the dangers he poses.

except one odd little demon, who somehow managed to pacify his blind killing instinct in an encounter. he wants to blame it on the simply detestable taste of their blood, but to be fair, he‘s not too used to being sincere.
