Role: Secondary protagonist, aims to create a world where everyone can feel safe.  Outgoing, dramatic, airheaded, blunt, altruistic, chaotic good.  

Bayou was born to a middle-class nymphibian family in Ibis, and unlike much of Mylancia, she wasn’t all that affected by The Darkness growing up.  She never lost anyone to the plague, nobody she knew was ever terrorized by inky black beasts, and her village was a fairly safe place to be all things considered.  Bayou had a very happy childhood compared to other Faelynians because of this, with the only real hardship she went through being when she was 14 and her pet koi fish died.  That being said, she wasn’t blind to the terror of the outside world, and she was always acutely aware of how bad things were for the rest of her country.  Bayou is a very optimistic person by nature, so she tried her best not to let it bother her, but the horror stories she would hear about The Darkness would sometimes keep her up at night, and the only comfort she was able to find in those moments were when she was with her friend Eline.

Eline, unlike many in their village, actually had first-hand experience with The Darkness, having traveled from Zelnauta to Ibis with her family to escape the war.  However, despite her trauma, Eline remained an incredibly strong and happy person, and she helped Bayou feel safe when she was worried about the future of their village.  They became friends almost as soon as they met, but it wasn’t long before Bayou fell head-over-heels in love with the other nymph, and to her surprise, Eline felt the same way.

However, as fate would have it, reality eventually caught up to them, and the Mylancian military visited their village to recruit soldiers for the warfront.  Bayou was shaken by this, but it wasn’t until Eline volunteered to join them that she became terrified.  She understood why her partner wanted to go; Eline had lost family to the soldiers of Na-ha and their Darkness, and Bayou wanted to stay strong for her, but she was just so afraid that she’d end up losing her that it was hard to be supportive.  Bayou ended up staying behind in Ibis while Eline returned to Zelnauta to help in the war effort, but Bayou couldn’t stop worrying, so she decided to move to a quieter part of Zelnauta to stay close to her partner.  She also began to learn rejuvenation magic, and made an effort to help out her new neighbors and friends in Zelnauta wherever she could as she waited for Eline’s return.

This is where Bayou is today, but unbeknownst to her, she would soon set off on her own journey to help restore peace to Faelyn…
