I am seriously considering redesigning this species, and in turn, Alpha.  I still like the way they look, but I stole a lot of ideas from closed species back when I first designed them, and that idea doesn’t really sit comfortably with me anymore.  I don’t know when I’ll do it, but just know that most of the stuff in Alpha’s description right now is outdated!

Name: Alpha

Meaning: Leader

Origin: Being the first chyplychy, he doesn’t have an actual name, but just goes by the role of “alpha”.

Nickname: Alfie

Meaning: In the modern world, he couldn’t just go around claiming to be the bloodthirsty ruler of legend, so when furs ask his name, he sometimes just says “Alfie” to avoid confusion, but most of the time he doesn’t respond at all.

Species: Chyplychy

Fur Color: Warm beige and red

Patterns: Two red stripes on his cheeks to signify his progression in life, and other random stripes in places like his hips, wings, legs, and all the way down his tail.

Eye Color: Pink

Tongue Color: Blue

Body Type: Tall and muscular

Gender: Male

Pronouns: He/Him

Age: Immortal; has been around since the first sign of life on earth.  Holds the appearance of an adult chyplychy

Birthday: Sometime in the vague, timeless ether

Physical Disabilities: Is the only chyplychy ever to have lived so long as to have lost the third stripe on his face, signifying his purpose in life.

Sexual Orientation: Straight

Romantic Orientation: Straight

Disorders: Depression

Introvert/Extrovert: Extrovert at heart, but has trained himself to live without others in his life for his own safety.

Habits: Discovering new things (new to him) like modern technology.  He is constantly bewildered by how fast things move now.

Fears

-Being discovered

-Becoming corrupted again

-Hurting others

Personality: While legends may portray him as a corrupt, power-hungry individual hellbent on destruction and misery, in actuality, he’s just tired.  He was constantly afraid to loose the people around him, and to do what’s best, and after countless years of being forced to watch beloved friends come and go, he decided to distance himself from his emotions; training himself not to get too attached.  However, this only caused devastation.  He never stopped caring for his people even after they abandoned him, and he longs for the day that he can make it up to them.  Modern world isn’t easy to adjust to, so he is often confused, but curious to learn.

Likes

-Birds

-Helping others

-Reading

-Exploring

-Experiencing technology (he is very easily amused)

Dislikes

-Vehicles (deathly afraid of cars specifically, so he walks everywhere he goes)

-Prideful people

-When things move too fast

-Impatient people

Occupation: Unemployed (kinda.  He doesn’t have an official job, but he gets around)

Religion: Atheist

Relationships

Siblings: Technically, there were about 30 other chyplychy created around the same time as he was, but he doesn’t consider them siblings seen as none of them had parents to begin with, so they can’t be related.  He was also deemed the only alpha in the group, so in the past he considered himself a higher being in comparison.

Relationship with them: Since none of them were immortal, they’ve all gradually died off as Alpha aged.  He misses them now.

Mate(s): He has had a few different mates in the past

Relationship with them: Considering the fact that he is immortal, he outlived all of them as was forced to watch each and every one of them die.  He is not interested in finding anyone anymore for this reason.

Children: He has only had a few children in the past, one in particular was named Sky.

Relationship with them: All decent relationships, if not a bit distant.  He was closest to his last child, Sky who was blind from birth and died at a fairly young age due to a deadly illness.  Their death is one of the main reasons he distanced himself the way he did in the first place.

Friends: Simon

Relationship with them: His current little bird friend.  As an immortal being, he has gone through countless bird companions, but he has never been more scared to loose one than he is with Simon.  They are inseparable.

Enemies: It used to be the Elytrians who lived outside the jungle of their old home, but they’ve long since disappeared.

Relationship with them: It used to be strong hate, but now he’s indifferent about them.

Backstory: Alpha doesn’t remember the exact moment of his existence.  All he knows is that one day, around the same time plant life first started to appear on the surface of earth, he and around 30 of his own kind came into being.  He was deemed their leader- larger, stronger, and with deadly sharp claws that he used to protect his family.  They called him “Alpha.”

He guided them across the land until they reached a hot, humid jungle- it was perfect, and they made it their home.  He quickly realized that he was set apart from his brethren.  While his siblings all grew old, had children, and passed away, he was left behind.  He survived countless rainstorms and floods- world wide cataclysms and mass freezing.  Friends, lovers, children... no matter how hard he tried, he would always be the one to see their deaths.

For this reason, his actions were understandable-  distancing himself from the world around him, he decided that caring about others only cause him pain.  This emotional disconnection however proved itself to be catastrophic for the ancient chyplychy tribe.  They became violent and bloodthirsty- training to the death, and killing any outsider who dare to enter the territory- or those who tried to leave.  Over the years, he made himself a god among his people, and he was feared.

That is until one day, the Elytrian tribe first made their first appearance at the foot of the jungle.  Their leader, Sunrise, demanded his presence, otherwise they would burn down the jungle.  Alpha reluctantly agreed, bringing nearly his whole tribe at the edge of the jungle to face off against theirs.  While this was not a fight, Alpha was prepared for one.  Sunrise’s agreement plan was simple: the chyplychy tribe would cease its violent behavior towards outsiders unless it is for protection- all trespassers must either be escorted out of the jungle or kept safely until an Elytrian patrol can retrieve them themselves.  Sunrise also requested access to the far southern stretch of the river that passed through the jungle which was in walking distance from the Elytrian refuge, so that their tribe had easier access to clean drinking water.  In exchange, Sunrise was willing to supply them with a large quantity of sugar beets and sugar cane juice (the two primary food sources for chyplychy at the time) as well as free trade between the tribe if they chose to enter the refuge.  Alpha’s people looked intrigued, and while Alpha was power-hungry, he was not stubborn, and he knows a fair deal when he sees one.  However, this would be his next mistake.

For a long while, there was peace.  Alpha’s tribe was still powerful and dangerous- that never changed- but there was very rarely even a single death annually to an Elytrian caused by his people.  This was very good.  However, Alpha began to notice that his people were becoming a little more distant than they usually were, and so one day, he decided to investigate.  He went down to the southern part of the river and hid- and this is where he noticed something he didn’t expect.  His people were having frequent visitations with the Elytrian people- conversing and sharing stories together, and forming friendships.  Alpha was even more shocked to hear from the mouths of his own people that many wished to leave- to live a life outside of the dangers of the jungle.  After his investigation, Alpha returned to the camp in the jungle and began to make an announcement: they would go to war with the Elytrian tribe- catching them off their guard and returning back to the way they had been before they had arrived.  Much to his surprise however, his plan was received with murmuring and disapproval.  Alpha was furious, and began to threaten his own people to obey lest they wanted to meet the same fate.  This was the last straw for them- even for those who were on the fence about the choice.  Unanimously, every single chyplychy besides himself left- either to join the Elytrians or to travel the world in search for some other meaning, and Alpha was alone.  For the first time in his whole life, he was completely and utterly alone.

Around a year into his solitude, he received his first visitor in a long time: it was Sunrise.  When Alpha saw him, he was furious, and was in no way in the mood to talk.  Sunrise explained that his tribe was going to be heading Eastward, and that if Alpha was interested, he could join them.  Alpha refused immediately, and made it very clear that if he ever saw him again, he would kill them.  Sunrise dejectedly left the jungle, and Alpha never saw him again.

Years past- centuries even- and Alpha never left the jungle.  As time when on however, he had a lot of quiet time to himself to think over his own actions, and eventually realized his mistakes.  This did not turn him back into his former self before he was corrupted however.  He would never again be the kind, courageous leader his siblings once knew him as- and neither would he be the bloodthirsty dictator of his time in the jungle, but instead simply a shell of everything he once was; depressed, lonely, and discontent.  It wasn’t long afterwards that his third stripe disappeared from his face.  His purpose in life was to lead his people, and now that they were all gone, it was not as though he had simply lost it, but that he realized that he never had it to begin with.  He realized that his tribe would’ve done far better without him even being there in the first place, and he broke down at the discovery that he had no purpose- he never did.

One day he left the jungle- part of him hoping to find his former friends.  They, of course, were all long dead by now, but he still found traces of their existence.  He found their descendants, and he found their new cultures- he learned that their kind was beloved by the other creatures he met, and how much of an impact their contributions to the world helped to change it.  However, the most upsetting thing to him was their literature- their legends.  In their writing, he learned of a terrible, destructive creature of war and anger- hellbent on nothing but power and domination; the red chyplychy- the beast with claws- the Alpha.

As time goes on, Alpha finds it increasingly harder and harder to fit in.  Things move so much faster than they used to, and everyone seems so stressed for no reason.  Alpha doesn’t understand much about what he’s supposed to do, so he mostly just travels the world trying to take it all in at once.  This may sound strange, but one day Alpha wants to die.  He knows that it is impossible for it to come naturally, so one day, when the time is right, he is going to right the wrongs of his past by doing it himself.  His only hope is that when this day comes, no matter where he ends up in the afterlife, he will be able to see his family again- if not only for a moment.
