People probably saw this coming from the increase in skipped/late weeks already, and while I really wanted to keep the thread running, I have come to realize it's just not something I have the time and energy to do. I have gotten increasingly more busy with IRL obligations and in turn used TH less and less, and after a little over 5 years it starts to get a bit more difficult to think of themes that haven't been used yet.
Nevertheless, it's been fun, and I have greatly enjoyed seeing all the characters people have posted here over the years! I didn't expect I'd keep up with this thread every week for this many years, with only a total of 3 skips (two of which are from the past few months). I would like to thank everyone who has posted their characters here and kept the thread alive!
Though I will no longer be updating this thread with new prompts, I'll keep it up & unlocked for people to post their characters if they still want to continue doing it - after all, this thread has always allowed people to post characters based on past prompts as well. I'm also cool with people remaking this thread on their own - just shoot me a message, and I'll link the new thread here. I still check TH daily even if I no longer have much of a presence around the forums.

For me I have everyone in this tag-- the most obvious, though, is Mephisto, who is a shapeshifter. He's naturally a dragon, but can alter his form to pretty much anything he wants.
Ulysses and Roger are similar; they're a kelpie and unicorn respectively, and can change between more horsey and more human forms, with a gradient in between.
Gracie and Buttercup are mermaids, and don't have fins when they're on dry land.
She became an Orphan after leaving her village cause it was a no bueno situation for her there, and well now she's 24, but for a good part of the ten years before that, she was one. Yeah she basically had Richter as a guardian, but that wasn't official so technically she is one.
Skira has been an orphan since she was ten. She lost her family in a ship wreck when pirates attacked. Both her parents were killed, though her sister managed to survive. She didn't shape up so well, though. Skira usually just pretends that her sister doesn't exist... (she became a pirate terrorist.)
while he's been adopted now, he was an orphan until he was abt 7 years old :0 he does end up meeting his birth mother canonically a few years past his current age and she becomes a part of his life again so i'm not 100% if he counts 😅
same w/ krypt'n and jae, they're technically orphans but have been adopted so once again, not sure if it counts lol
Hoo boy, where to start?
Well, to begin with, Muireann lost her family in a shipwreck during a sudden storm as a child. She was the only survivor, and developed a phobia of the ocean and open water as a result of the experience - Something she’s struggling to overcome, wanting to go back to the way she was as a kid, living as much on the sea as on land. She’s probably gonna be the next character of mine to receive a full profile, because she’s one of the few closed species characters of mine to have a full backstory and everything already and I want to put it somewhere visible, lol.
Kelsey, whose profile I finished last night, is another orphan! I struggled finding a character for him until I remembered another Vaiki of mine, Vesna, who two other characters of mine found seemingly abandoned and took in as an adoptive child of sorts. I realized that Vesna’s life before they found her, which I hadn’t established before, was the perfect jumping-off point for Kelsey’s character, and now the group is intrinsically linked - Kelsey, having found his parents washed up dead and frozen on the shore of a river near to his and Vesna’s childhood home after disappearing while searching for food during an unusually long and harsh winter, and coming home to find his little sister had wandered off, now dedicates his life to finding the last family he has, refusing to believe he lost everyone he loved forever, all in the same day. I was gonna ask the species owner if that was too dark but then I remembered Muireann above watched her family die in front of her and was severely traumatized by it so like. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Aside from Vaikis, several characters from Greyscales, my wip Splatoon comic, are also orphans! All of their profiles are unfinished, in part because I’m planning to redo my notes now that Splatoon, Splatoon 2, and Octo Expansion are all out to make a more cohesive narrative, so I won’t link them here, but among them are the Burke siblings, as well as Tako and Yaki.
As more borderline examples, well... Vesna, linked above in Kelsey’s section, is an orphan of sorts, having lost her biological parents alongside her sibling. Unlike Kelsey, however, she was able to find a loving, if rather weird, set of parents in the forms of Hana and Neta not long after their deaths, and she was so young she can barely remember her original family. And Lir, another Vaiki connected to a proper orphan, this one Muireann? His mother, who raised him in his youth, did indeed pass away while he was still young... but only after he wandered off among the fairies as a child and found a home there in their world, never to be seen again. He ultimately never gave much thought to her, never learned of her fate, and can barely remember her or any of his old life any more. Even if he were to learn of her death at this point, it likely wouldn’t phase him, having become rather disconnected from normal, mortal life.
Emil is an orphan! He lost his mother when he was still very very young and after his father passed away he didn't rally have family members to take care of him and went to an orphanage. He's doing alright though he works under a very sweet old witch and he has lots of people who care for him even if he's a little strange
