This dude started out when I was designing characters over christmas, when my brain thought "Hey, how does santa deliver presents to all the kids in one night? There must be magical involvement from other creatures!" And so this fella was born. But in this discord art server I'm in, people tend to draw him pretty often, so he has quite a bit of art And people in forum games sometimes comment about how the demon representing christmas was weird at first, but soon made sense. Honestly I may add more to this if he gets more picked in forum games and such. .
@Judas-la-carotte's thread about underrated characters made me think about the opposite! I'm not going to use the word "overrated" because I certainly don't mean that any OCs deserve less love, but do you have any characters whom you're surprised get more attention than you expected they would, among your characters?
Maybe people pick them more often in forum games or art trades than other characters, they have more faves than you expected, or they're just the ones your friends have gravitated towards for whatever reason-- but maybe they aren't among your own favorites, or they're just not the OCs you expected would be popular.
And has that character's popularity inspired you to use or develop them more, or give them a bigger role in whatever story or project they may be in?
There are no particular rules for this thread; just be nice and don't try to make people feel bad about their taste or anything like that.
Definitely Amos, for quite a while he had far more likes than any of my other characters, despite the fact he has still yet to have a full reference. His profile still needs a lot of updates as well; when I first made him he didn't have too much about him but as I have developed my other characters and their world some of the aspects of his story that were just meant to explain something about him have become entwined with other characters, most notably with my newest character Tobias (though what I have written doesn't mention it for now)
This guy kinda surprised me the most. He has the second most faves of any character I've uploaded (the most well loved is Cybby but she had a lot before I bought her) and it was a surprise. I expected his 'sister' to get all the likes as she was less 'creepy' and more pretty then him. But he holds strong at 11 favs to her 6 and he got the love first.
I feel horrible because he has so many faves and only one art to her three.... I need to pimp him out more cause I guess people like him.
I didn't expect him to be liked as much as he is lol. I've just noticed that my friends and others tend to drift to him.
I have given him more of a role because of it. Originally he was like, a side character? His purpose was more to show the species. But now he has a whole mini arc lol
He has very little information on him and while I like him he's not my favorite, but people consistently gravitate toward him over characters I'm more fond of or have designed myself. I don't get it, but it's neat to see what draws different people in.
I originally never thought Crowley would be well-liked. He started out as just another generic serial killer character and gradually evolved into the reckless alcoholic idiot he is now. But despite his silliness, he's become my most well-known and popular character used on the internet, as well as my most favourited character on here.
I don't really know why people like him, but I'm happy they do!
I honestly didn't expect her to be as popular, at least over my other mascot. I adore Hyemi, but she's always had kind of a typical backstory and such (which is fine, because it fits her well and as a mascot I dont need her to have a ton of dimension). I even did a poll back when I introduced her and people preferred Scotty much more, but the tides have really changed lol (at least based on the responses I've gotten her eon TH). I wonder what the results would be it I made that poll now.
