I'm a bit surprised, but I'm glad there are people who like the blessing upon this world that is Boris. He is the best of my characters and too good for my feeble arms. I don't regret paying 15 points for him, each one of those was worth it so I could embrace him and love him as my own.
@Judas-la-carotte's thread about underrated characters made me think about the opposite! I'm not going to use the word "overrated" because I certainly don't mean that any OCs deserve less love, but do you have any characters whom you're surprised get more attention than you expected they would, among your characters?
Maybe people pick them more often in forum games or art trades than other characters, they have more faves than you expected, or they're just the ones your friends have gravitated towards for whatever reason-- but maybe they aren't among your own favorites, or they're just not the OCs you expected would be popular.
And has that character's popularity inspired you to use or develop them more, or give them a bigger role in whatever story or project they may be in?
There are no particular rules for this thread; just be nice and don't try to make people feel bad about their taste or anything like that.
Lagoon and Neto get more attention than many of my others which makes me happy since they're some of my favourites, but one that gets enough attention to surprise me is Lia.
She gets a large amount of attention compared to my more fantasy based, anthro, or feral characters, but at least until I get around to finding a new hairstyle/outfit I like for her.. she wouldn't be my top favourite. I do like her though, and have been thinking about writing up a bio for her, just been too lazy to.
Moses has a lot of favorites, and i think he's the most recognized character i own (next to f*cker). he's literally a black cat with white eyes and a creepy rainbow grin but i love that he's so well-received!! he's one of my absolute favorite characters, but to me it's so surprising given that he is that simple. :')
She's literally looking like a normal Husky you could probably meet outside. For some reason a lot of people like her a lot, maybe because of the simple design? So, she started as a not important side of to one of my mains.
Okay, I've recently updated his bio, so let's talk about Ismaël a bit. He used to be one of my characters with the most faves, and even if nowadays, some of my new characters have gotten a bit more attention (looking at you, Raffi and Hara), he still seems very appreciated! :D
I was... pretty confused at first? Tbh he was one of my first characters to get a lot of attention and faves when I started to use the forums, and I really didn't expected it, since he is more down-to-earth than some of my other OCs, both design and bio-wise. Some people said that they love the references I used to create him (both the Moby Dick and the religious ones), but I also think that it's because his icon instantly gives him that "pretty boy" vibe lmao (bless madichams' art...)
I'm happy that people like him! I didn't really expected it but it's cool :D Ismaël is an OC I heavily relate to, he was a super important comfort character when I was studying for finals especially, so... yeah :) Thank you for the appreciation on him, guys!
This boy... Became way more popular than I had expected. I made Jamie charming intentionally but it was meant to be deceptively so. He was raised in a very business like family where you serve a purpose, and his was - well - manipulative in more way s then I can describe. It kinda warped the way he views things and his connections to other people. Other people just gravitated to his twisted way of existence. They wanted to show him love and either keep encouraging him to be his awful self or try and get him help.
They ended up sparking me into making a fallen angel version of him and it spiraled into the giant web that it is now. I love him, but in the way that I seriously love to hate him. It's been a fun but hard story to start writing out, but some friends of mine are cheering me on, haha. Not to mention one of them decided to convert an au for one of their characters to align with his so... I'd say that's so pretty strong love towards a highly overrated character. I'm scared that he's starting to grow on me - he's even listed as one of my mains now yeesh. ^^;;
Walter has become one of the most popular Sinfonia characters, which sort of surprised me because I was worried he was a little too catty and drama thirsty? But I guess that's what actually appeals to people and it makes me kind of happy because out of the main cast Walter is the only character who is "cai original" and was not made out of a specific 70s shoujo trope (they were supposed to be joke characters, hence the stereotypes)
Im really happy that people like my main character. He's not the most pretty character. At least in my opinion. I sometimes think he's cringy but at the same time not. Maybe because of the neon colors. But so many people told me they love his design. It's so nice to hear and I'm glad.
Maybe I'll redo his design one day and give him more bright and natural colors.
I mean ... she's so underdevloped compared to my other OCs ... and I am honestly getting a little sick of her at this point.
I'm REALLY surprised about this guy having so many faves.
He is a really bland character, having a simple appearance, a simple personality, and a simple backstory, being one of these fully modern and realistic characters whom had a very normal life, with nothing special ever happening to him. He's like you and me, basically.
It's actually the kind of character I really love, and I really love my little Amadeus, but people tend to make me understand that they find this kind of character to be really dull and boring to the point that some would actually despise me over even owning this kind of character, so....why so many faves...? Does people like Amadeus for real? I'd be so happy if I could ever believe it.
