Ask the person above OOC about their character!

Posted 6 years, 2 months ago (Edited 6 months, 6 hours ago) by Luke (CHIEF) hedgemaze

There's a thread for asking IC questions to the character above, but I am a sucker for all dem sweet, sweet character development tidbits, so if you're like me and you've ever wondered what inspired someone to make their characters, here is the thread for you.

Post IC (but don't actually write IC) as the character you want the person below you to ask you a question about, or you can let them ask about any of your characters (or a certain group of characters)! Ask any question OOC to the above character's owner, like perhaps what inspired a certain design choice, what gave them the idea for the character in the first place, what aspect of their character they struggled most in writing, or if the character has changed significantly over time. Anything you want, really (it doesn't have to be a character development question: it can be any OOC question about the character, or a group of them). Claim first if you need time to look through their characters or read their profile(s). And after you've been asked a question, edit your post with your answer.

Rules:

  • Please try to ask an interesting question!
  • Nothing too sensitive here, please. If you must post something sensitive, use a spoiler cut or make the text and highlight color the same. There is another thread for NSFW questions.
  • Please ping the person above you so you make sure that they see your question! If you're not sure how to do this, you simply type @THEIRUSERNAME, and they will be notified! This will not work if you edit the ping into your comment later (like if you wanted to claim and then edit your question in); you must put it in when you first submit the comment.
  • You are NOT ALLOWED to skip anyone in this thread. If you cannot see the post above you because the poster or you have blocked each other, wait for another person to comment before replying to the thread. Feel free to bump the thread to encourage others to participate!
  • Wait at least a couple of posts before going again.
  • You can bump the thread as often as you like; I don't mind.
  • BE NICE!

I'll start us off with this guy. Have fun!

Edit: my answer

So Luke and the other two terrorists were inspired by an incident when my friend and I were in high school, and running around the neighborhood like the teenage idiots we were, wearing all the Halloween costume items from my basement that we could manage: among them, a Christmas reindeer antler headband and a child's toy fireman helmet. A guy yelled out of the window of his pickup truck that terrorists like us are what America stands against... which was an insane thing to yell at teenagers in stupid costumes, but it made me think, what if I played that guy straight and he was right?

What made you decide to create 12 Swift?

The Royal Spades don't have much of a motive, they were the second gang to appear in HailShore. In the begging Conner was much of a loner after taking his life away from his rich family and started to focus more on revenge. After taking out the old leader of Clubbers he still felt unsafe and created his gang soon after.

As for the gangs in Hailshore I still need to work on two of them,  but thats what I mostly have for The Royal Spades

Nicholas Arayes Caine

Regarding Conner, how do The Royal Spades operate? Like what's their main focus as a gang? And is there any sort of hierarchy within the group?

Has Nicholas ever had any bad mishaps or encounters due to his use of the black magic book? What happened, if so? If none, why? Is it just because he was very cautious or? Also, how long did it take before he felt totally comfortable using black magic?

I'm mostly focusing on Nicholas while they're still kind of getting used to the magic, so the most they do is magic that doesn't have really big consequences were they use the spells wrong. The worst kind of mistake he has made has resulting in him vomiting blood, and only by the help of Henri and Dekartes he managed to survive through it - otherwise he would have died. Also since Nicholas is now able to get out of his confinement thanks to the book he has ran into some dangerous situations, like into Henri when he was out in the woods at night in his fullmoon form because he needed werewolf fur for one of his spells. Henri almost bit him but managed to control himself in time.

He is still not totally comfortable with black magic and to some degree it still does terrify him a little, as he is cautious and doesn't want to end up killing himself in the process of it + since he lacks a core of his own it's harder for him to know his limits and point of exhaustion, as usually the core sends pain to your body to show you're going too far.

Why and when did you decided to create OCs based on computer viruses? They're are all original and super cool! :0 Also, which aspects of the viruses do you usually keep in mind when designing and writing them?

Anyone from The Paradoxal Collection or Flying Popcorn please! You can take a quick look at the "FAQ" of each folder to make sure you don't ask a question I've already replied to! c:

Lorem Ipsum caught my attention due to their name, does it make other characters notice that it's, well, from the lorem ipsum text or is it considered a normal alien name for the other characters?

It's a normal name for a Zinut; all the Zinuts who will appear in the story have names who are puns or references to existing stuff, especially in literature! Another good example is the queen Abécée Derre, whose name can be translated to "hornbook" (and her first name alone just means "ABC").

Are there more aliens than the Zinut in your story? If so, what does Lorem think about them, or how do they get along with them? What is their relationship with the rest of the cast?

There's another alien species who will appear in the story: the Dis! The Zinuts are rather friendly tourists, the Dis are more invasive. Therefore, Lorem gets along well with the rest of the cast, except for the invasive alien species ~ But tbh, Lorem isn't a major character in the plot, and can't interact with human characters directly since they don't speak their language. They're mainly linked to the queen they serve.

That's a concept from JJBA and it's basically a fighting spirit that represents the fighting strength of every person. It's a superpower lottery basically, they can be really shitty or godlike basically and you can't do anything about it HAHA

You can be born with one, or be struck with an arrow that either kills you or gives you one. The latter is the case for Viscenzo, and it's what makes him a stand master, which is named Mr Blue Sky because after the fourth arc of the canon, they start getting names of classic rock songs :P

So yeah basically Mr Blue Sky is Viscenzo's fight ghost, that's their relationship. It doesn't have any personality, it's just a spiritual manifestation and it can't be seen by people who don't have stands themselves.

Junko spacecadet

What is a stand? How is Viscenzo the 'stand master?' Who is Mr. Blue Sky and how do they relate to Viscenzo? ;o

Mm I haven't really thought about that! I think if she wasn't born into the yakuza, she'd remain very loyal- probably get into some bad relationships because she'd still be very like... loyal to a fault. it's in the nature of a wolf to have pack mentality I think, or more like Junko's nature. She probably would not end up joining if she wasn't born into it- the reason she doesn't view them as 'bad' is because they are like her family. I don't think she'd be thrilled to see all the killing they do if she wasn't born into them.

KittyKnight

If Junko wasn't born into the yakuza, how would her life change? If she had a chance to, would she end up joining? Why/Why not?

Feel free to ask about any on my characters, though I'd probably give better answers for those in this folder!

Thank you for the questions! There's nothing really you asked which can be explained by saying "because Town of Salem logic", so it's all good!

Also, its in a spoiler because its lengthy:

"Is there something about her having a role in the Mafia that contributed to her design?"

Whilst there's nothing explicily "Oh yeah, I gave them that 'cuz mafia role", there is one small thing that I think her role contributed towards. Kinda.
Within ToS, each alignment/neutral role has a specific color. For instance, the town's is green, the coven's is purple, jester's is pink, etc. Since the mafia's color is red, I'm pretty sure that it was a subconscious decision to have reds as the main color within my mafia role's color scheme.

So, in the case of Connie, a reddish-pink takes a large chunk of her design, and most of my mafia characters tend to have some form of red within their design. This is generally the case for most of my characters, where the color the role is associated with in game tends to show up on their design. Of course, there as exceptions, such as Francis who, despite being a mafia role, has no red within his design whatsoever.

Aside from that, her role also influenced her name. Since her role is Consort, her name is Connie. Plus everyone's name alliterates with their role. So, due to her role, her name had to begin with C. That's just been a thing that I've done for ages, no idea what started it, but its a thing.

"Do you design your characters for their role or do you design them, and then assign a role?"

Characters for their role. Since the old Town of Shipping thread from ages ago, we sometimes used to draw and share fan art of our favorite ships. However, not all roles had official skins, so it was pretty common to see people make up designs for roles. As such, I used to draw my own designs for each of the roles, but never really developed them until everyone started making their own Town of Salem canons... Of course, those who I drew with official designs (Such as forger and serial killer, even though these two designs was taken from somewhere else? Can't remember that one, but it was shady either way) have since been changed to my own designs.

"For Connie specifically, is there something in particular that gets her really mad?"

I'm just gonna say it. She's a jealous bitch..

As such, Connie gets really mad when there's people she's jealous of. Such as Esme, who infuriates her. This is mainly due to Esme's magic capability, which she was born with. Connie, on the other hand, was never born with such talent, which she would of loved to have. Actually wouldn't she be mad with her parents too...? Hm, gotta think about that.

I'd image that people talking trash about her role also makes her really mad. Connie really enjoys her job, but since it's considered something which practically anyone can do, she's not considered as important as those whose roles are harder to come by. As such, it's not too common for people - especialy within the mafia - to just trash talk her due to her role, which she hates.

Plus I'm pretty sure there's some stereotype in my canon where Consorts are often related with NSFW stuff. So I feel she gets a bit angry when people bring that up.

classicturtle

So I've never played Town of Salem, so I'm sorry if my questions are something that are game related aaa!  But your character Connie- first of all, I love her.  Is there something about her having a role in the Mafia that contributed to her design?  That could be asked about any of your Mafia role characters, actually- do you design your characters for their role or do you design them, and then assign a role?  For Connie specifically, is there something in particular that gets her really mad?

Ahhh Marc!!  Marc is actually a super weird story- so all my characters used to be Kirbies.  It was horrible... I had this one character named Marc, and he was old, antagonistic, and very very French.  But I got... bored?  With old Marc.  He was too theatrical to be the Old in Age Marc I wanted.  So I made a new Marc- Marc Jr!  He was young, fresh, in theater- and son of the old Marc, Marc Sr.  It messed up my plot a little bit, and there's still a plot hole, but that's okay!  No one needs to know about that.
Marc is also a really fun character to write for!  He's not too serious and he's a lot of fun.  Plus he's a little dumb so it's always fun to try to make dumb humor like... actually funny and not forced ahaha.
And Marc's relationship with his dad!  It's.. weird.  Marc's dad is really cold and distant.  He doesn't financially support Marc in any way (even if he could), and he is really harsh to his son.  He still loves him, and even has all these cute phrases and sayings for his son, but he's... not a loving person.
Marc loves his dad!  No matter how hard it is to get a smile or some sort of approval out of him, Marc tries his best.

Oooh Marc is really adorable! :o What motivated and inspired you to create him? Also, how is his relationship with his father? :3

Are the angels in both stories related in any way? Like, do they know of each other's existences?

Yup, even if they aren't really the same species, they cohabit in the same universe, as written in Lumirel and Sezunel's bios for instance, who are characters from FP but are directly linked to characters from TPC.

If they do, could you tell me about their relationship if they have one?

Whoops I've already replied a bit by lining these bios just above but I'll elaborate a bit! Angels from Flying Popcorn and archangels from The Paradoxal Collection live in the same universe and world, and are pretty similar, even though both species are different (FP angels are closer to FP demons than TPC archangels in the strict "species" sense). FP angels are older but have more flaws and are less powerful than the TPC archangels; in FP, it's revealed that archangels were created by Lumirel on purpose, while angels were born "on their own" (directly as angels, they aren't dead people) long long time ago. Being powerful creations of the princess of Heaven, the archangels are heavily respected and treated a bit as royalty by other angels, which is illustrated in Sezunel's bio. Both species doesn't interact that much, not because it's impossible or forbidden, but just because archangels usually stay in the Tower of Heaven with their creator, except on some special occasions such as the events of TPC!

It honestly goes back to when I was in the Kagepro fandom, not because of Kagepro itself but because I had a headcanon that one of the character's (Konoha) halloween costume should be a fairy. Because it was funny to me to imagine him as a fairy, since he's supposed to have superhuman strength and is super tall and also super pretty.

Now when I made Alice I had in mind that he shouldn't be entirely human, but he didn't have any psychic powers in his first iteration. However he gave me the same vibe that Konoha gave me and I had the same thought BUT THIS TIME I could make it a 100% canon reality.

Fast forward to when I did give him psychic abilities and placed him in a different universe, I did have in mind that he was part fairy without knowing since I gave him his abilities but it was a mystery for a while until they found out and he found out and he had to take a couple days to let it sink in.

So I made the species solely for him and only for this, and I wanted to create a species that made sense for his overall vibe. I especially didn't want to fall into the trope of 'disabled person gets superpowers so they are up to abled people's standards' and 'autistic person must not be human', and I probably didn't do it flawlessly (and I understand if it's still uncomfortable to some) but I wanted to approach it more like like his own special interest was so intense that it 'unlocked' his fairy heritage, even if no one else in several generations of his family could, nor knows anything about it. I also backed this up with the idea that these specific fairies help other living things so it would make sense that it'd help him make his dreams come true.

From that on I just gave it some thought on how they're not around anymore and really liked the idea that under purist elders the younger fairies decided to rebel and it basically made them almost extinct in their pure form :P it's like, that's exactly what the elders didn't want to happen, but the younger fairies had a happy life and I'm glad for them.

The percentage of fairy blood in him was kind of a joke at first, because it's so specific and absurd, but it's accurate anyway.

HowlingCat

I am kinda curious on the process you took to deciding Alice's species. Well that as well as the creation of species itself? :0 The powers of the species is certainly fascinating especially considering the personality you can him. It's also interesting to see something...different for someone who has a small % of fairy blood in them.

Any character here is fine except Jasper and Ryujin (as well as other characters in the sub folders). Their backstory and what not is not yet completed.

Could you talk more about Bounded Pairs and what it means to be part of one? How did your characters find out they were Bounded Pairs? How did it change things?

I sure can! The Gods that are responsible for Bounded Pairs are the Lake Trio. Their purpose of making Bounded Pairs is actually not to ensure they can find their ‘true’ love but more so to compete with each other over who can make a stronger Bounded Pair. For them, love has always been a game to them as they had different ideas on how it can be build. However, the Trio themselves are not responsible for the main heroes being bounded pair.

For Lucius and Raiden, Arceus made them a Bounded Pair. Not for a game but to help Lucius. He knows that Lucius would have a hard time dealing with the old memories of the past that would unknowingly pain him upon finding each new Memory. He understands that he can’t turn him away from those memories but wants him to have something to help him move on. It is why he chose Raiden. Raiden does have the eyes needed to look forward to the future and do what is needed to move forward. It is something that Lucius lacks.

For Ronin and Lewis, Victini made them a Bounded Pair. Mostly to prove the point to the Lake Trio that he can bring even the unlikely pair together and he didn’t need to do anything special to prove it. All he needed is a year and the opportunity for his Bounded Pair to fight through against every one of the Lake Trio’s Bounded Pair. He was mostly doing this as a means to challenge himself and to show how much of a lucky guy he is.

To be part of a Bounded Pair means that you are then soulmate of that individual. A soulmate is a person with whom one has a feeling of deep or natural affinity. This may involve similarity, love, romance, comfort, intimacy, sexuality, sexual activity, spirituality, or compatibility and trust. This fact is one that I planned to explore more. As soulmates, you can feel the other's emotions and thoughts. The latter through the use a mind link that no psychic Pokemon is able to peek into. As a Bounded Pair, your Bond is by strengthen through whatever your Bounded Name. Lewis and Ronin Bounded Name is dancing so anything that involves that brings them closer. At least it presumably does.

How the Bounded Pairs change the main heroes is interesting? For Lucius and Raiden, they had no problem accepting that. However, it didn’t really truly hit them on what that meant until later on. For Ronin and Lewis, it was quite jarring for them and it took them a while to accept it and eventually fall in love.

Ask me about anyone from Catband!

Hedgemaze Expo definitely are more inexperienced than Persephone's Winter, and younger (18/20/21/22 vs. 23/23/24/24/29). In Hedgemaze Expo, Mitzy has been in a band before, but it was just a crappy garage band, Bane has performing experience but as a subway busker, not on any kind of stage, and while Amber can write and play and Jill can sing, neither has done that in any kind of professional capacity.

Persephone's Winter has been a band for a few years (Izzy, Haggis and Xero formed the band in college, and before that Izzy and Hag would have been messing around on their guitars together in high school), so they have a leg up that way, but on the other hand, they've only ever played crappy local bars, and they didn't have much of any kind of following before the contest. They've also just added two new members to the band, and Hedgemaze Expo have just done the same thing, so both bands are going to likely have some growing pains as they work out their new dynamics.

Eventually both bands become fan favorites, but there are other popular acts too, and as for who eventually gets the fan vote, well that's a spoiler, isn't it? : p
