Q you wish someone would ask to/about your OC?

Posted 6 years, 1 month ago (Edited 5 months, 12 days ago) by hedgemaze

So there are a number of threads for asking questions to or about other people's characters, but do you ever have that one question you really wish someone would ask that they never do? A detail you think is particularly interesting or mysterious, or maybe just something you think would be really fun to talk about, but there isn't really a forum game that suits it? Well, here's the thread for you.

Post IC (but you don't have to write IC unless you want to) as the character in question-- or stay OOC if your question is about a group of your characters, or all of your characters. Write a question you have wished people would ask you, then let the person below you make their guess or theory as to the answer. You can edit your post later to tell them if they're right, or give the answer, or you can stay mysterious if you want to (if you don't think you're going to remember to come back and edit your post, you can just put the right answer under a spoiler cut or blackout text). Make sense?

Rules:

  • Keep everything SFW!
  • Please ping the person above you so you make sure that they see your response! If you're not sure how to do this, you simply type @THEIRUSERNAME, and they will be notified! This will not work if you edit the ping into your comment later (like if you wanted to claim and then edit your question in); you must put it in when you first submit the comment.
  • You are NOT ALLOWED to skip anyone in this thread. If you cannot see the post above you because the poster or you have blocked each other, wait for another person to comment before replying to the thread. Feel free to bump the thread to encourage others to participate!
  • Wait at least a couple of posts before going again.
  • You can bump the thread as often as you like; I don't mind.
  •  BE NICE and have fun!

Toni Takara bulgariansumo

Since it's underneath a spoiler tag on his bio, I'm gonna black this out, but is it because he's in a relationship with Mars and the male symbol also doubles as a symbol for Mars the planet?

----

Why does Toni idolize Higgy and not his brother Maxy?

Rory Klein TenMomentsTill

I would guess its because Toni really admires how hard Higgy works and his dedication to being the very best he can be.

Toni might also be put off by how reckless and wild his older brother is. The two of them seem to have very conflicting personalities.

--------

Why does Rory have such a bad relationship with his son?

Thomas hedgemaze

I'm guessing it has to do with how chaotic and irresponsible Rory seems to be, getting into trouble all the time and forgetting obligations. Maybe he's blown off things important to his son too many times, or maybe his son just thinks he's bad news. I don't see any mention of the mother, so I'm guessing she doesn't, or didn't, have a great relationship with Rory either, maybe for similar reasons.

Thomas' bio says he's put his dreams to the side for the sake of his kids. Any guesses what his dreams were?

Dragon Lord (Human form) Gipsy_Danger

I wondering what his dreams were, maybe it's something that really big but yet contained too many times the Thomas cannot archive with times spending on his children. They always said times draining out the passion and dreams of a person.

LeoLeonis hey it's been a while

I picture Sol as being generally pretty outspoken when it comes to his beliefs, especially his political beliefs. I can see how Sol's more aggressive stance would clash with Scopulus's attitude, and how he "doesn't think every opinion deserves to exist and be shared". Also I could see how Scopulus' lacking emotional intelligence might be a point of conflict sometimes as it pertains to evaluating new or hypothetical policies-- I could see him coming off as quite callous compared to Sol in some cases. Also, Scopulus is an anarchist, and a pretty individualistic one at that. I'm not sure where Sol sits on that political axis, but I feel like he'd be more likely to argue in support of political structures that serve the needs of the many.

Meanwhile, I think Albus would argue for other reasons-- I read him as leaning a bit more "traditional" in his beliefs, which isn't to say he's not progressive, but maybe not as progressive as Sol. I see Albus as someone more willing to resign himself to existing rules, even if he dislikes them, unlike Sol, who seem more likely to stand up for something, regardless of the repercussions. I see Sol as being someone who is more willing to take action and shake things up, wheras Albus is a more safety-oriented individual. Sol might be frustrated by Albus's passivity, while Albus may be alarmed by Sol's aggression. Also, because Albus was raised in Mons and not Lux, there might be cultural that come between them as well. I'm not sure where Albus personally stands on Mon's genetic laws, but if he buys more into Mon's stance, I feel like that could be a source of conflict between him and Sol.

I'm having trouble picking a severe and unifying sticking point here, though I can imagine they would argue about the above things at least.

Adriel was kicked out of her order for getting knocked up; she knew the consequences of breaking her oaths, but she broke them anyway. She did have access to various magical and medical means of terminating an unwanted pregnancy, though, so she probably could have gotten away with it... she just chose not to. Aside from like... the sanctity of life and all that, do u think there was any other reason adriel chose 2 become a mother?

That's a lot nicer than the real reason :'v although you're not entirely wrong in that this ended up making her feel a lot more human than she perhaps anticipated 👀

Petrel malaquill

I'll take a stab at it!

For the first, I'd assume he thinks other monarchies are incorrect, based on his personality. If he can look down on people, why not entire kingdoms? Maybe there's a lot of "Well, I would have x..."; like they're not doing it wrong, but they're doing it wrong and he can definitely do it better.  At the same time, he seems like he might be able to learn something from history; maybe there's an idea to be gained, or an aesthetic choice to be interested in-- but he doesn't seem quite the type to admit to that.

----

I actually would love for people to ask really deep, analytical questions about his creation, his character arc, his personality, and his [psychology / state of mind, but I'm blanking on specifics! (Though I won't stop you if you want to tackle something like that).

Petrel has gone through a lot of iterations, both in concept and in terms of character development. What was he like before his current self, or even as a kid?

----

Not too far off! He was the oldest of the cult kids, so a part of him probably felt somewhat responsible... but he was also the most curious and willing to go along with shenanigans. It was easy to rope him into things even when he hesitated. He cared a lot about his friendships (his loyalty as it is now is cult influence, but he's always been the type to stick around), and was more outwardly emotional; a bit of a crybaby, even.

Gautier Séraphin Dubois aidenopossum

malaquill hope you don’t mind the ping!

I might be way off the mark here but I feel like, at least until he started getting punished severely for misbehavior/asking too many questions, Petrel might’ve been curious, somewhat unruly, and maybe even a loud kid? ...kind of just the opposite of how he is as an adult tbh

This is so silly, but... This is something I would’ve expected someone to ask about in the design question thread at some point... But nobody has!

Why is Gautier’s ear pierced?

SHSKFHS vape you are so valid but that’s also not it

A long while ago, probably before Benji was ever born, Gautier got very drunk and was convinced (perhaps by a witch) that a piercing in that particular spot with that particular metal would act as a good luck charm and as protection from the supernatural.

Gautier believes in it, still, which is why he even still has it. I’m inclined to say that none of that is actually true because that sounds funnier but at the same time... It is a wonder that Gau hasn’t gotten himself killed yet...

If it’s any consolation, maybe Benji secretly always though Gau’s earring was super cool and that’s why he eventually got into body mods...

Edit: oh rest assured it isn’t silver because that would eventually kill him. I don’t actually know what kind of metal it is yet asgkfdhdh

Maribelle Burnett Vapor

i feel so bad not realizing his ear was pierced until now dfejfkewjffw--

but, after looking at it, part of me wants to say it was half his and half Benji's doing as a way to... relate. [though this probably absolutely is not it lol i am so sorry--]

AW MAN--

dlfmds,fm if it's anything though i thought for ONE SECOND that it could have been a charm but... but i figured it was silver... and i mixed up werewolves and vampires... and was like... "wait wouldn't he die wait why does he have an earring" and for some reason that thought deleted my entire brain

a bit of an emo one, oh no, but: why is maribelle so afraid of children?

as for you rusty............ you're pretty spot on, because on one end yeah it's because she associates children with how she felt in the past, but it also sort of is because she's a grumpy teenager... there is another reason but it'd probably dip into spoiler territory for something i have planned and just... need to get my ass up to do

 Fitzgerald kafkaesque

this might be a bit out there, but... given that Maribelle was essentially fucked over by Otto as a child, I have the feeling that she might associate children with the feeling of powerlessness and helplessness. she probably finds those associations painful and thus fears them in order to give herself an excuse to avoid confronting those emotions. in other words, in my eyes, it's sort of more like an avoidant coping mechanism than an actual dislike per se. on a related note, there's also the possibility that she could sort of see herself reflected in that demographic, and since she pretty much hates herself, then.... boom. Mairbelle just ended up projecting her own feelings of self-hatred onto an entire age demographic. :"))

there's also the probability that she just screams "teen who dislikes children because they find them annoying" energy. like... her more withdrawn attitude just clashes with the higher energy that children tend to have, which would result in a disliking for younger age groups. it could be related to the reasons discussed in the previous paragraph, but I can't articulate for shit rn, so I'll treat this as an entirely separate branch of logic yserfgcusyfc-

the question I have actually doesn't really have a right answer, so I hope it's not considered a cop-out, but... I'm always a fan of making characters that are ambiguous and can be analyzed in multiple, equally valid perspectives. Fitzgerald is no exception to that unfortunately lmao. that asides...

how much of Fitzgerald's behavior do you think is due to his genetics? how much would be due to his environment/upbringing/experiences? (yes, I'm bringing up a nature vs. nurture question, but I did make the exact proportions ambiguous, so... go crazy...)

---

   - ahhhh that's a pretty interesting way to put it imo haha. if I'm gonna be honest, I personally lean a good bit towards nurture as well, so it probably shows up more blatantly in Fitz than the nature part. whoops. still, your particular angle was something that I enjoyed reading!! ^^

also. the whole sweet tooth out of spite thing is pretty much canon. I'm nabbing that now because it's just.... so IC for both of them and I love it srhfvgsufyvfd-

Ives xmoriartea

I think I'm going to have to say that yes, his staff does know he's a robot. From the looks of it and if I've understood his page correctly, most of the people he's involved with are aware of what he is to some extent, and the scar under his eye seems like it would betray the secret. Perhaps they don't know he's entirely android, maybe some suspect he's a cyborg of sorts, but there are at the least comments about him that have people deeply suspecting that the robotic nature is more than just a personality trait.

Is Anwar really worthy of Ives's trust?

Want to know a fun thing? I really, really don't know the answer to this either. But man, you nailed all the red flag bits. All the things that make Ives and anyone who gets close to him wonder what's really going on. See Ives's memories? He doesn't exactly realize they're missing, not until someone else makes him think of these things. He knows he's noble born, he knows he studied somewhere prestigious. And that's baseline enough that most days he glosses right over the fact he can't really remember where he studied, or what. He can remember his mother's laugh but he can't remember her name. And when he tries to recall those things, it's a spiral. He panics. Because why can't he remember these things that seem so vital to who he is? What happened to him in that accident to make it all go away? And who is most often there to help him through it? To make him breathe and let go of the things he can't remember? Anwar.

I designed Anwar and Ives together, but the details of Anwar aren't mine. I handed him as a blank slate lich to my DM and said 'here. break my damn heart if you like' essentially. We've spoken a little, setting down some of the base lines when I was figuring some things out. So I don't know all the details, but I do know a little more than Ives.

That place he studied? It was a church, he's a cleric. He WAS a cleric. I don't even know who too, but Ives is trained in religion. He's very wise, like clerics should be. And when he comes across religious text, he usually has some familiarity with it, he can recall facts and mythos and has no idea why.

So you're 100% right when you say Anwar wants something. But what?
Did he really just save Ives by chance and come to care for him? Is he just really bad at things on an emotional lich-to-mortal level that he veered totally off course with some of his attempts to keep Ives safe?
Or is it something worse? Is he keeping those memories from Ives on purpose? Is he grooming Ives to be nothing but a pawn? Something treasured while it's useful but replaceable in the end?
And then of course, there's that thought that Ives refuses to think about: Was there even really an accident at all? Or has everything that's happened to him been entirely at Anwar's hands?

I am dying to explore this more. My DM and I have chat about it a bit, but so far, Ives hasn't been in anything but a few one-shot games. So no real development on his backstory things. But gods. I want to know just as bad as he does how this is gonna turn out.
