"How did you and Tirané end up becoming friends? What would you consider the moment you realized you were no longer willing to 'collect' him - whatever that means - and instead saw him as someone of importance?" Merrill asked, but then rubbed the back of her head and added: "Uh, I mean, I do know it's often hard to name just one moment, but surely you must have had a point where you knew you were no longer willing to go with the initial plans."
'Soooo, the first time you met Nicholas and Henri, you thought that Henri was trying to eat Nicholas, and you attacked him? That's pretty funny. Did he forgive you quickly for that? Also, do you have a closer friendship with one of them, or do you get along with both of them equally well? ...I guess that's two questions, but eh, whatever.'
"Ahaha, yeah, that might have happened," Merrill replied, awkwardly scratching her cheek. "I didn't end up hurting anyone though and the misunderstanding was fixed without causalities, but it did some time for Henri to b at ease around me - and rightfully so, if I may add.
My relationship to Nicholas and Henri is undoutedly different: Nicholas is the person I have vowed to serve and protect, and although I'm loyal to the throne of my own time, due to my circumstances I must devote myself to a different master for the time being. However, that isn't to say Nicholas isn't my friend also: I do care about him not just as a master, but as a friend as well, and wish to help him choose the right path in life for himself - he is so very young still, and awfully misguided at times...
With Henri, I work for his family so I see him a lot, and I undoubtedly consider him a friend as well. But as difficult as it is to put in words, I do think Henri and I are friends in a very different way Nicholas and I are, perhaps precisely due to the fact Nicholas is someone I wish to serve and guide, whereas Henri seems to be feeling similarly, and we're bonded by our mutual concern over Nicholas."
