A bunch of short little stories from Sonnet's foalhood. Somewhat in chronological order, and only loosely connected with each other (minus them all taking place in Candentia, when matters were simpler and times were happier)

12 - Tea Party

Sonnet forced away the urge to laugh and giggle at the situation in front of him. Instead, he levitated his teacup and took a sip of the hot tea inside.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Minuet doing the same.

While he had used his telekinesis, Minuet had used a different magic, her magic pulling at the small gemstones inlaid near the base of the teacup.

After he had taken a sip, and held his teacup up for the proper amount of time, Sonnet returned the teacup to its proper place on the table again.

If a Quirlicorn didn't pay attention, or didn't look closely, they'd likely have seen the magic around his antlers disappearing. And they'd likely have assumed his magic had been retracted, and that he was no longer actively using his magic.

Which would have made sense, given the teacup was no longer being levitated, thanks to telekinesis.

But those Quirlicorns would have been wrong.

Because a thin, barely noticeable glow remained around his antlers. (Likewise, Sonnet could see the faint glow around Minuet's antlers).

And because, while he had stopped using his telekinesis, he was certainly still using his telepathy.

He wasn't using his telepathy to read the minds of Parav and Arisane, who were taking turns to instruct him and Minuet on the history of tea ceremonies, and to criticize the manner in which they sipped at the tea. (Partially because Sonnet wasn't certain he wanted to know what they thought of him and Minuet's attempts at proper tea sipping).

No, he was using his telepathy to converse with Minuet. (Anything to make their ninth repeat of the tea ceremony less mind dulling).
