A bunch of short little stories from Sonnet's foalhood. Somewhat in chronological order, and only loosely connected with each other (minus them all taking place in Candentia, when matters were simpler and times were happier)

14 - Stranger Danger

The palace seemed to be abuzz with news. Not big, important news, or small, inconsequential (but interesting) gossip. Something that was somewhere in between that spectrum of news that could cause the Quirlicorns in the palace to chatter in conversation like they were today.

"So, what's happening today?" Sonnet intercepted and asked one of the Quirlicorns in the hallway.

The Quirlicorn looked at Sonnet, and dipped his head in a quick bow, "Regent Radiance issued orders for one of the separate wings of the palace, for permanent residence."

"Who's moving in?" Sonnet asked, furrowing his eyebrows as he tried to recall which Quirlicorns he knew could possibly move into one of the unattached wings, permanently. Psychomyth already lived in his own cottage, surrounded by serene gardens. Uncle Lux had his own set of rooms as well, close to the library. Sonnet's father lived on the same hall as him and Minuet. Parav lived outside the Palace grounds, preferring to stop by during lesson times. Although, Sonnet couldn't think of a single reason as to why Parav would suddenly want to move into the palace. The other Quirlicorns he knew, had homes in other lands. There was an entire wing of the castle dedicated for the Quirlicorns that just needed a temporary place to stay, while visiting Candentia.

"No one knows yet," the quirlicorn answered, "Probably some Quirlicorn that likes privacy; Regent Radiance wanted us to keep this on the down low."

"Huh, interesting." Sonnet turned to walk away, wondering if Minuet would know more about the Quirlicorn moving in. "Have a good day."

"Good day to you as well."

The mystery was soon solved, once Sonnet made his way to the palace wing with the most hustle and bustle. (Although, it was more of a house than a palace wing, given how it wasn't attached to the main palace.) The unknown Quirlicorn was Martine, who had decided that moving to the palace would be beneficial for all parties involved. And apparently, Martine also brought with him his daughter, Faven.

Minuet turned her head towards Sonnet, and asked via telepathy, "What do you think Faven'll be like?"

"Hopefully fun," Sonnet answered silently, "I wonder if she'll be a good jousting partner."

"Why not go ask her?" Minuet suggested.

Sonnet shrugged, "I would if I could find her."

No matter how hard Sonnet tried, he couldn't spot any Quirlicorns that looked like they could be Martine's daughter. He could hear Martine's voice, issuing commands and helping out the Quirlicorns assisting with the move.

"Or, you two could go run off and do something else."

Sonnet swiveled his head around to see Psychomyth standing behind him and Minuet.

"Where's Faven?" Sonnet asked.

"You'll get a chance to meet Faven later," Psychomyth promised. "Faven said she wants to rest for now, so go and joust each other or something."

Sonnet frowned, as he and Minuet walked away. "I wonder why Faven doesn't want to meet anyone," he muttered. "I know I would want to meet everyone as soon as possible."

"Perhaps trying to move everything into the palace was tiring, and Faven doesn't want to deal with meeting strange, unfamiliar Quirlicorns, on top of getting used to her new home?"

"Maybe. But hopefully she's nice, I want to be friends with her."
