A bunch of short little stories from Sonnet's foalhood. Somewhat in chronological order, and only loosely connected with each other (minus them all taking place in Candentia, when matters were simpler and times were happier)

5 - Legos

Hundreds upon thousands of tiny, multicolored plastic bricks were strewn every which way across the room, with no rhyme or reason as to why they were where they were. Some wooden bins were placed near the back of the room, evidently where the Lego bricks belonged. Yet, more of the tiny plastic bricks were out of the bins, than inside them.

“I thought this would be a great way to practice telekinesis!” Resplendence said, referring to the mess of Lego bricks on the ground. She waved a hoof in the general direction of the plastic bricks.

Sonnet lifted an eyebrow, and stared at Resplendence. “Really? I’d have thought you just wanted me to clean up this massive mess for you.”

“Most definitely not, dearest cousin of mine,” Resplendence answered in a sing-song manner. She gave her best smile of innocence, one Sonnet easily saw through.

“Yeah, you just want your ‘dearest cousin’ to help you out..”

“Hmmm…. Maybe. It’s still good telekinesis practice though! Not my fault I don’t have telekinesis to practice,” Resplendence argued.

Sonnet stuck his tongue out. “Admit it, you want to be lazy.”

“Dearest cousin, must you word it that way?” Resplendence added a tiny bit of pleading to her voice, “If you clean up, your magic will make it incredibly easy. Much faster than me doing it….”

“What if I still don’t want to?” Sonnet asked, smirking at Resplendence.

“Then how about this,” Resplendence asked, “If you manage to sort these Legos into the right containers faster than I can, using magic, I’ll buy you a cookie.”

“You’ll buy me a cookie…” Sonnet looked at Resplendence. “... using Grandmother’s gold?”

“Eh, details!” Resplendence grinned. “Want to begin?”

“You owe me one of those new s’mores cookies,” Sonnet answered, activating his magic.

“Okay! Ready… set… go!”

Sonnet reached out with his telekinesis, grabbing onto a large number of the plastic bricks, as soon as Resplendence said ‘go’. As he scanned the plastic bricks with his eyes, sorting the bricks by color and by size, he realized that Resplendence was right.

This truly was a good way to practice his telekinesis. Especially with how he needed to push his telekinesis to the limits, to handle the number of bricks. The Lego bricks weren’t particularly heavy, the problem lay in how many individual Lego bricks there were, and the way he needed to divide his attention between every single brick he held in the air.

Especially when he also needed to sort the plastic Lego bricks by color and size.

He looked at Resplendence out of the corner of his eye, and noticed her using her shield in a manner similar to telekinesis. She would make a shield around the plastic bricks, and then lift the shield, and thus the plastic bricks as well, into the air.

Sonnet grinned, as he looked at the bricks he was holding in the air. He decided to try something new, and started grouping the plastic bricks in mid air. And instead of putting them into the boxes one at a time, he figured it would be faster to wait until he had a good number of bricks that belonged in the same box, to place all of those plastic Legos in the box, all at the same time.

Unsurprisingly, he won the game by a long shot.

As he laid on the ground, panting from magical exhaustion, he gave Resplendence a wide smirk. “Told you I’d win.”
