A bunch of short little stories from Sonnet's foalhood. Somewhat in chronological order, and only loosely connected with each other (minus them all taking place in Candentia, when matters were simpler and times were happier)

3 - Pool Party

It wasn't an uncommon sight, to see the young grandson of Regent Radiance galloping through the halls, as days passed and the colt grew out of his need to stick to his sire's side.

It also wasn't uncommon for the young colt to barrel into other Quirlicorns, barely stumbling before charging onwards again. Then there'd be Resplendence and Minuet following behind him, running at the same concerning speed.

On one sunny day, one of the Quirlicorns of the palace came up with a brilliant idea to get the three foals out of the palace, and out from under every Quirlicorn's hooves. Namely, forcing one unfortunate Quirlicorn to take the three foals to a natural pool in Aktinovolia, and foalsit them there. And hopefully minimize the destruction caused by the twin descendants of Lesser Deities.

Surprisingly, the three foals followed along with minimal fuss, already familiar with the fairy ring system Candentian Quirlicorns used to travel around.

Once at the natural pool, Resplendence instantly hopped in, splashing her companions with cool water. Sonnet shook the water out of his eyes, and then dived in after her, reaching out with his magic to redirect most of the water.

"Sonnet!" Resplendence screeched, giggling as her head was soaked by a large quantity of water. "I'm going to get you for that!"

Sonnet smirked, "You can try!"

His experience mirrored one that was commonly seen on Regent Radiance's face. Carefree, yet self-assured. One that Regent Radiance often gave Psychomyth and Martine, when assuring them that everything was fine, telling them to stop worrying, and then flying off, saying that she would handle it herself. Most of the time (thankfully, in one overworked Quirlicorn's opinion) Regent Radiance was right, and handled the situation brilliantly. However, the remaining times often involved Psychomyth dragging Regent Radiance back to the castle to rehash the plans, again.

Resplendence flicked her tail, splashing Sonnet again, before leaping onto the land on the other side of the pool.

Minuet watched them quietly, leaping into crystal clear waters with grace. She, too, wore a grin on her face. Subtler than Sonnet's smirk and Resplendence's broad smile, but a grin nonetheless.

"Two against one?" Resplendence shouted conspiratorially to Minuet.

Minuet looked back at Sonnet, before grinning in Resplendence's direction. "Why not?" she asked, splashing through the water to stand closer to Resplendence.

"The betrayal, sis," Sonnet put on a mock affronted expression, amusement and a general fondness for his sister still clearly evident in his voice. "You two are on."

The overworked, very unfortunate Quirlicorn assigned the task of watching all three foals was rather glad said foals were outside.

Especially when ice crystals started growing out of the water, leading to shrieks of surprise and more splashing as the other two foals tried to avoid the ice. Not a very fruitful endeavor, as Minuet's cryokinesis magic was much faster than scrambling hooves.

Eventually, somehow, all three foals were no longer standing in a pool of crystal clear water, but rather on top of solidly frozen ice. And no longer swimming.

Instead, they were sliding on the ice, and crashing into each other.

It was a miracle Candentia hadn't been burned down by these three foals, yet.

(Honestly, it was probably a miracle Candentia had survived Noxaeterna and Luxaeterna.)
