PROMPT SYSTEM SLIGHT REWORK + INCREASES IN SHOP PRICES

This isn't news anyone really likes to hear, I understand. However, with how we've grown as a species and a community, it did warrant some changes.

Simply put, with the influx of currency earnings in Blood Tides and the otherwise easy-to-grind currency, shop items have become fairly worthless and unrewarding to work towards. To combat this (and to bring some more incentive for participation where it's otherwise unwarranted), I've worked with our staff team (with some input from the Discord server) to make the following changes:

1. Shop item prices have been increased by 3x their original prices.
2. The first prompt submission for each month has its payout doubled, to 10 SC.
3. Prompt submissions after the first 2 will cease to reward SC-- instead, they will give out 2 bottle caps each. No limits on how many submissions you can make.
4. Submitting prompts will give you a chance to have your character featured on the monthly bulletin-- in a "Jel-or-Perf-of-the-month" kind of deal! By default it'll work as a little interview between an NPC and your character, but once you win, you're free to format it however you wish! This feature spot will be given out as a raffle-- so long as you submit a prompt, you have a chance to enter this raffle. Your chances will be doubled on your 3rd submission, but no increases after that-- sorry!
5. Multiple prompts will be available each month! You're free to do only one, do several, or even try and tackle multiple in one submission. No penalty or otherwise changes to how many (or little) prompts you want to do.

MAY PROMPTS: SPRING CLEANING/HIGH STANDARDS

For some fairly obvious reasons, I don't think we got many submissions for April's prompt... I don't blame anyone, lol. I hope nobody minds me reusing it, though.

With May being prime time for exam time (APs specifically, in my case), I'm sure many of us are striving to do our best... so fittingly, here's the second prompt. At least this one's new.

It takes a certain kind of person to take the Scyphozate pill. (Or if your character's a Perforator, they're probably working as hard as they can too). How is this mentality affecting your character? Is your character's desire to be the best the reason they took the pill? Was the pill worth it?

Prompt submissions are worth 10 SC for your first submission, 5 SC after your first, and 2 BC after that! You can earn up to 15 SC a month and unlimited BC after that.

CLOSING REMARKS-- TEMPORARILY LEAVING SPECIES DISCORD

I've made some passing remarks on this issue, but it's gotten to the point where I have to make it an official announcement: I am no longer well enough to be talking or let alone managing the species Discord. Hopefully, this break will be temporary, though!

A FOREWORD-- SO WHAT'S GOING ON?

JELLO EVERYJEL! I know this looks like it's coming out of nowhere, but uh, I've got a bit of news for you all.

Good stuff first, I got into my dream college! And the bad stuff... I'll have to be living independently away from my family for the next four years, starting in the latter half of this year. I won't have much of my nice, (relatively) chore-free life left. I'm gonna have to be keeping myself alive and focusing on my studies.

In addition, my health has taken a decline and I'm often just not around anymore enough to do as much work as I've done in the past. As much as I'd like to keep providing content, my current state's making it very difficult and I suspect it'll be a long while before I heal. 

We've also gotten fairly large at around 700 members (thank you!) and all things considered, it's become a little too much to handle alone, as great as our mod team is. Just to give this species another hand as I'm sent off to college and beating the f--k out of my illness, I'll be opening applications for co-owner or admin!

Unfortunately, I will not be stepping down. I'll just be less active.

I'll be opening these applications to everyone, regardless of how much you know about the species or if you're in it at all! For newcomers, here's some useful stuff to help you get the gist of stuff and decide whether you'd be interested or not.

WHAT'S ALL THIS ABOUT?

1-800-SCYPH is a CS universe set around modern day in Clearweather, a fictional town. The universe revolves around a mysterious company known as SCYPH.co and contains two species (at the moment-- I have plans for a 3rd): the Jelveils, unfortunate (or deliberate) consumers of a "talent-in-a-pill" product (with some very unintended side effects), and the Perforators, mechanical life-forms built to keep the company's secret underground. Common topics in the lore are identity, corruption, and the value of art and self-expression. The species is very text-heavy, and may require lots of reading (if you couldn't tell already by how long this post is).

On a more meta level, I founded 1-800-SCYPH with the intention of keeping it non-profit, with MYO sales going straight to ocean charities. I also sought out to leave the species relatively accessible for newcomers (but they're still closed to encourage donations and all), so getting your hands on it would be-- and excuse my language-- piss easy. Thus, despite our high member count, we aren't a coveted name-brand whatsoever; if you find prestige and market value important, I don't think this is the species for you.

WHAT AM I GETTING INTO?

First of all, we're a CS. This means we have an approval system, currency, a masterlist, and all the other funny CS stuff. Additionally, since we're a multiple-species world, it's kind of double the work (expect that to be "triple" when I get this other species idea I had off the ground). Please be sure you're able to handle the pressure and workload of managing two CLOSED SPECIES. Of course, we have a wonderful moderation team that does a lot of work, but this is probably not going to be an easygoing field trip, especially not since we have such a large and active community.

If you're concerned about the money (which is reasonable-- I do want to keep Jelveil MYOs to charity donation only, after all), it's important to note that you probably won't be making very much passive income from sales, if any at all. Of course, I will allow you to sell adopts as you please and keep all your profits there, and we can work out a reasonable compensation later in DMs. I mentioned a new species, and I'm debating on whether I'll make them for-profit or not. Again, this is up to discussion, but this won't be a moneymaking machine for you. My sincerest apologies.

Curious about the difference (well at least, in my definition) between co-owner and admin? Co-owners, well, own the species with me. They'll probably get the most say out of stuff (along with me. you have to fight me) and can have their characters actually incorporated into canonical lore. We'll work together on stuff like new traits, new factions in the universe, fun stuff like that. You'll probably also be giving me a hand on some visual assets here and there, as well as moderation and decision-making. Good position if you like both managing and creating. More work, but more glory. (Bragging rights come included.)

Admins are higher up on the pyramid than moderators, but less involved in the lore and content creation than a co-owner would be. Good position if you like managing stuff more than creating.

And as a closing thought for this section, this universe can be fairly serious in tone. Of course we don't get into anything extremely upsetting, but be prepared to handle topics like mental health and drugs.

NEW EVENT-EXCLUSIVE TRAITS

This was actually a fairly requested feature, but I've finally gotten around to making them! For those of you who are worried that you'll see a trait you like but never have the chance to get it, don't worry! Even after a certain event ends, there will be chances to get its traits in the future.

Anyhow, introducing Tormented traits! (Mutation was already used and I had to come up with something edgy)

You'll be able to buy these traits in a special event shop, though they only come in limited stock, or earn them in other ways throughout the event! The blue character you're seeing is the Event shopkeeper. (She's also a Jelforator.)

The current set of traits for Blood Tides 2023 are: Relocated Brain, Floating Lucid Marks, Body Pits, and Overgrown Neck!

I've left a bit of stock in the shop just to start us off-- don't worry, I will be restocking these traits throughout the event! You're free to pick up what you think catches your fancy, though.

PERFORATOR LAUNCH: FREE MYOS AND ARTFIGHT-ISH EVENT

Setting up the Perforators was a fair bit easier since my foot was already on the ground with the Jelveils, but I'm certainly proud of having finished them nonetheless!

In any case, there's two big events I've hosted to celebrate the launch! You'll be able to pick yourself up a couple of items to make yourself a Perforator or two with (or just use as regular Jelveil items), and participate in an ArtFight-esque battle between two teams!

WHAT IS A PERFORATOR?

Never heard of these guys before? Not to worry-- there's a fair bit of worldbuilding and lore in the universe as a whole, but the gist behind the Perforators are decently simple.

A living weapon designed and employed by a mysterious organization known as the Undertow, the Perforators are spider-like androids built for a single goal: keep the truth behind SCYPH.co hidden. While they're designed to excel in physical and psychological combat, they aren't always out to kill... after all, the only thing that hurts the system more than a rebel is a martyr.

However, the blueprints for Perforator construction were leaked online, so not all of these sentient machines were built for these not-so-sunny deeds.

Anyway, what secret is SCYPH.co hiding? Well, why don't you find out?

PERFORATOR LAUNCH: FREE MYO EVENT!
As stated above, we're handing out some free stuff for you to get started on your Perforator(s) with! With these items, you're free to either make ONE Tier 2 Perforator, both a Tier 1 and Tier 0, save 'em up to get to a higher tier... or just... use 'em as regular items for your Jelveil MYO tickets. In any case, free stuff!

Items from this event DO NOT EXPIRE. You have until [APR/20/2023] to claim some stuff for yourself! As is usual for these sorts of events, it will require joining the World and sharing a bulletin, but we won't ask anything else of you.

BLOOD TIDES 2023 - SCYPH.CO ARTFIGHT
To celebrate the Perforator launch (as well as tease at just a little character backstory), we'll be hosting another event! This'll net you some neat rewards with both our regular and event currencies, which you can use to buy yourself all sorts of cool stuff like mutations and the like to use for either your Jelveils or Perforators.

It's an ArtFight-Esque festivity where members can divide themselves into teams and draw each other art (and do other stuff), but rewards will be given based on each attack-- not whatever team wins in the end, so just focus on having fun. (Hey-- you'll even be able to attack yourself for the same rewards, so don't even worry! We're just here to have a blast!)

If you were around for Daybreak 2022, you'll remember that it was Discord only... fortunately, THAT'S NO LONGER THE CASE! With use of World threads, everyone will be able to participate in Blood Tides, regardless of whether they're in the Discord or not.

Along with making standalone adopts, you may be asked to participate in affiliate batches or make supplementary visual content. This, of course, is not required, but is preferred. Furthermore, you'll get to keep all the profit you make.

I'll compensate your work by allowing you to make as many personal Jelveils or Perforators of whatever rarity or tier you desire without the need to consume items or currency. Of course, only apply if you think you can make adopts!

WORLD UPDATES: QUALITY OF LIFE 

I figured with how content and page-heavy our World was, it might've been a rather daunting one to navigate. I've heard we aren't the most beginner-friendly CS, buut... ah. Let's just focus on what we can do, shall we? I've made a few changes here and there to make our World a little more concise and easy to get around!

THE CHANGES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1. A PROPER DIRECTORY PAGE! This page has all the links to the important, surface stuff, as well as a quick description of what they do.
2. The sidebar is now shorter and makes scrolling less of a headache.
3. Some pages have been condensed and combined with others. Namely, the guide for submitting designs and transferring stuff is now on one page.
4. CHARACTER TRANSFERS HAVE BEEN CHANGED-- this is a choice to make it easier on the mods. Instead of using the thread, you'll just directly comment on the MASTERLIST PROFILE who you're transferring the character to and why.
5. The World CSS now reflects the SCYPH lore faction responsible for it! The regular CSS you all know and love for SCYPH.co, a darker, redder variant for the Undertow, and no CSS for the Riptide, Drifter, and other stuff.
6. Speaking of the Undertow, getting to their page is significantly less annoying. Hey... what's that weird staticy thing on the staff list...?
7. And finally, as you may have noticed, there's a brief summary on the top of the newsletter bulletin to tell people who don't want to read the whole thing what's up!

PERFORATOR UPDATE

Whew, I've done quite a bit of work on these guys. If you're interested in them and you haven't signed up for the pinglist yet, check out the interest check thread! Bumps and comments every so often do help me out, so I'd appreciate anything of that sort.

In any case, I'll just briefly go over what I've accomplished as of late with them here.

UPCOMING EVENT-- BLOOD TIDES 2023

Daybreak was pretty well-received so by the requests of a few I'll be making a similar event, this time to celebrate the launch of the Perforators! This'll take place alongside a more typical MYO event, and is meant as a fun way to build our community a little more while giving people options to earn more of the currency that you buy the Perforator-making items with.

For those of you who weren't around, Daybreak was pretty much a team-based artfight-esque event where people would draw or write for each other and earn currency and points for their team. The team with the most points won. Friendly-fire and even self-attacking was allowed, though they didn't give out as much points (but the same amount of currency).

CHANGES TO THE FORMAT WILL TAKE PLACE:

1. The event will no longer be Discord-only. While I do expect most of the activity to be on Discord, I will be adding options so those who don't have it or aren't in our server can still participate.
2. Along with art and writing, I'll be posting questions or puzzles every so often-- whoever's the first to answer will earn some points for their team.
3. Two designs, each for one team, will be raffled off at the end of the event. You'd only be able to enter for the raffle if you're part of that specific team and you've made an attack (even if it's against yourself), though.
4. The winning team will have an extra raffle for a rare ticket. (I did do this last time but I didn't announce it.) Having to have made an attack won't be necessary for this one.

MARKETPLACE FORUM

A simple little thing, just a place for people to advertise. You're free to advertise in both the Discord server and the forums, the forums just have more "permanence" in the chance that matters to you.

There's a section for both Scyph and General ads, so just plug whatever you feel.

CLOSING REMARKS-- BREAK EXTENSION

As you can see, I'm still active and working on the World and lore and all the content and all that, but I will still be taking time off from stuff like shop updating, design approval, and all that technical CS jazz. It doesn't seem like much of a big deal though, especially not since we've got such an awesome mod and helper team fillin' in for me!

That's about all. I'm super hyped for the Perforator launch, so I will be focusing a fair amount of my energy there.

Why? Because I love writing, damn you! 

Anyhow, for you lore lovers, here's something new for you to chew on.

Tabula Rasa is our trench jelly NPC (I hate that term but it's the one every CS uses) Marley's backstory. It's uh, definitely experimental... enjoy.

Broken Veil is another Canon in the Jellyverse (or in more familiar terms, an AU). You're free to check it out and if ya like it, you're free to add your jellies to it! (It DOES have a separate storyline from the main Canon-- for example, the Undertow doesn't exist in Broken Veil. Why? Go read and find out!)

NEW SPECIES: PERFORATORS (CW: SPIDERS)

Yes, yes, I know what you're thinking, and yes, yes, these will be related to jellies. I'm not pulling just a random ad for a random species out of nowhere.

Do you like spiders? Do you like perfume? If so, you'll love this new species that'll make its way into the SCYPH.CO universe. I've teased them here and there in Jelcord, but I'm finally making... the interest check public. To give you an idea of what's up;

"The purpose of a Perforator is simple: it's a sentiment machine with the ability to administer lethal poison, tranquilizers, or Scyphozate, either via direct injection through the spider limbs or via aerosol, meant to silence the people that carry information dangerous to SCYPH CO's well being. Furthermore, Perforators can be built to look extremely horrifying, which allows them to gain a psychological advantage over their victims and other enemies of SCYPH CO."
