NETIKARI

Status: Semi-open

Homeland: Atuannar (Feroxis Tantari)

Stalwart guardians of the north

The Netikari are a species of beings that came about from repeated crosses between Dragons and a now-extinct feline species native to the Feroxis Tantari region of Atuannar. They are a powerful, intelligent species that forms pack-bonds easily, a trait that has led many to form long-standing partnerships with individuals of all races, but especially the Protokeros. They do not natively use magic, making them somewhat dependent on Vesperian crystal (Aether-bound) items, but their size and strength usually counterbalances this weakness. They are also capable of unleashing a breath weapon similar to that of their Draconic ancestors. There are rumors that they can access their latent magic using a primal ritual, but these are not confirmed.

  • Average lifespan: 800 years
  • Adulthood: Age 50
  • Diet: Game meat, seafood
  • Average litter size: 1-3 cubs per litter, with only one or two litters on average in a lifespan. Netikari have great difficultly conceiving at all, contributing to the species' rarity.

The Netikari are majestic in appearance, though many would call them monstrous. Standing at 7 to 9 feet tall on average, they tower over many of the other races of their native Atuannar. Their forequarters are usually much more developed than their hindquarters, giving them a hulking stance. Like their Hoarfrost ancestors, they invariably have four jutting fangs(two pointed upward, and two pointed downward past the jaw) and two swept-back horns on their heads which vary in size and shape. Their tails are the same length as their bodies or longer, and are usually thickly furred, though some Netikari have tufted tails. All genders exhibit manes. They also have two stunted wings, another trait retained from their draconic ancestors, which have between 3 and 5 digits. The leading edges of these wings are thickly furred as well, to protect against the cold of their homeland. They also have paw pads and retractable claws, like their feline ancestors; these also appear at the end of digits on their wings. A Netikari's wings are not large enough to permit flight and are usually used for gliding instead. Netikari also posses scales, littered in patches across different parts of the body.

TAILSCLAWS

Different tail types and claw types

  • Manes: Manes are a non-optional trait, but they can vary in texture and appearance. While most Netikari have fuller manes, there are a few with sleeker manes. The texture can be more akin to fur or hair, with those on the hairier spectrum able to sport thick curls.
  • Claws: While most Netikari claws are retractable, it is fairly common to see a few with overgrown claws.
  • Tails: The standard tail is long and densly furred. It is uncommon for a Netikari to have a tufted tail, and unheard of for tails to be docked.
  • Colors: Fur and manes must be natural colors (the exception would be a blessing from a deity). Scales and eyes can be unnaturally colored. Claws and flesh are naturally colored.
  • Scales: Can be any shape
  • Horns: As stated above, horns can be any shape or size, as long as they sweep back away from the face. Some are smooth, some are gnarled like antlers. They must be naturally colored, and can never be made of anything translucent like crystal.
  • Markings: Netikari can exhibit a wide range of markings, most commonly feline markings.
  • Limbs: Front legs are always larger than back legs. Wings are never large enough to allow for flight.
  • Draconic Ancestry: While they most closely resemble Hoarfrost dragons (the original progenitors of this species), distant bloodlines were intermixed with other breeds of dragon. This means the breath weapon of an individual Netikari will depend upon their specific bloodline. The available breath weapons are as follows: Fire, Ice, Lightning, Poison.

The Netikari are native to the Feroxis Tantari region of Atuannar, and have been allied with the Protokeros for centuries. Netikari serve as guardian companions to many Protokeran settlements, and were most prominent in Naxanos for their help at keeping monsters from venturing south. During the Reconstruction period of Protokeran history, contact with Naxanos was mostly broken, and caused tension between the Protokeros and Netikari, the latter feeling like they'd been abandoned. The Netikari are a proud and territorial race, and value strength of mind and body.

Netikari are capable of limited Ice Magic as part of their draconic ancestry, but usually require the use of a focus (usually an orb or talisman worn as jewelry) to properly cast any other spells. These talismans are made for them by Protokeran artisans as part of their alliance.
