Overview

When a Protokeros comes of age on their 30th birthday, they choose a profession (sub-class) in line with their deity and unique magical and physical abilities. Being born to one class does not prevent your Protokeros from moving to another, up or down. Protokeros society awards honors based on merit. Each class and sub-class are ranked on a social-scale called Authority. The scale goes from 1-10, 1 being the highest honor and social impact and 10 being the least influential.

In the case of elderly and retired Protokeros, they most often become Dependents, especially as they enter the Fading. Their prior Authority rank is retained only as a symbol of their achievments.

COMMONER CLASS

A majority of the Protokeran population falls in the Commoner Class. Each Protokeros has a place in society, and they all take their duties very seriously. Everyone is aware that there is no one too insignificant, and that without the backbone of folks in this class, society would not function. These individuals are usually able to study under their own families, like in the case of laborers. More educated professions like teaching take longer to get into, but that education is free.

Occupations in this sub-class include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Librarian

  • Store Clerk

DEPENDENT

Authority: 10

Patron Gods: Any

This is the sub-class designated to children or the elderly; those who cannot reliably care for themselves because they are either too young or too old. WARRIOR CLASS

TRAINEE

Authority: 10

Patron Gods: Any

Protokeros seeking any of the professions in this class must first seek formal training. Currently, all official trainees gather at the barracks situated next to the palace. Every quarter of the year, new recruits are accepted from all walks of life, so long as they can prove their worth. These most often tend to be Protokeros of the Burly build, but that certainly doesn't mean that warriors are limited to one stature or purpose. There are many different styles of combat that lend themselves better to a more dexterous build. Basic training for new recruits lasts two months, where everyone learns disciplinary routines and undergoes physical and mental endurance training to prepare them for their advanced training in their respective specializations.

FIGHTER

Authority: 9

Patron Gods: Any

Soldiers specializing in melee combat and limited magical defense are classed as fighters. These are the common footsoldier and comprise a majority of the force of the new kingdom.

SAILOR

Authority: 9

Patron Gods: Uliana, Ventus, Thyra

These are soliders specializing in naval combat and navigation. The current generation of sailors is still relatively new, and it will take a few more years before the Protokeros can amass anything remotely resembling a fleet.

ARCHER

Authority: 9

Patron Gods: Thyra, Theia

Archers are specialized in ranged combat, with bows, crossbows, ballistas, and a few other forms of projectile weaponry. They typically are in the rear formations and rain volleys of arrows into oncoming hoards to thin out numbers before the clash of front lines.

THAUMATURGE

Authority: 8.5

Patron Gods: Verum, Thyra, Somnis

A hybrid spellcasting/melee sub-class that focuses on directing spells through their weapons or in conjunction with weapon attacks. They focus more on dexterity and utility, and crowd control on the field of battle.

COMBAT MEDIC

Authority: 8.5

Patron Gods: Epione, Trist

Protokeros who are first and foremost field medics tasked with basic healing, first aid and trauma care on the battlefield until the wounded can be brought back to physicians. They are stationed with active troops for greater mobility and in order to monitor health. In the absence of a physician, some combat medics are relied upon for ongoing medical care for disease and battle wounds. They are also subject to the same training as either fighters or sailors, in order to properly defend themselves in the heat of combat.

COMMANDER RECRUIT

Authority: 8.5

Patron Gods: Thyra, Theia, Somnis, Uliana, Ventus

Warriors who are in training to assume role of Commander in their respective fields. Trainees must attend rigorous courses on the art of strategy, leadership, management, and problem-solving. This takes four years at minimum, and the top five percent of each class is slated for candidacy as a Paladin after a certain amount of service or achievments as a fully fledged Commander. Your Protokeros' starting sub-class must be Fighter, Sailor, or Archer before attaining this class. Details to come at a later time!

COMMANDER

Authority: 8

Patron Gods: Thyra, Theia, Somnis, Uliana, Ventus

These are the generals and naval captains charged with leading battalions, and are highly trained and disciplined individuals. Only an exemplary few of the current generation are capable of handling the leadership roles thrust upon them through necessity. With the ever-growing threat from monsters closing in, they must ensure that morale stays high, bodies stay fit, and that minds stay sharp. !!!IMPORTANT!!! This rank is NOT available to MYOs, and must be attained by first going through the commander recruit sub-class. More details at a later date!

CLERIC

Authority: 7

Patron Gods: Epione, Trist

Combat Medics who undergo more physical and combat training, in addition to more advanced healing and shield spells. Clerics are primarily support for their fellow troops, but are much more proactive in fights than Combat Medics. They often follow formations and orders given by commanders for the sake of cohesion on the field of battle, but are not beholden to them as clerics outrank the commander sub-class in Authority. !!!IMPORTANT!!! This sub-class is not available for MYOs, and must be earned by first selecting combat medic! Details to come!

PALADIN

Authority: 7

Patron Gods: Thyra, Theia, Somnis, Verum

These are elite warriors that channel their magic into their combat, requiring the use of a holy symbol of their patron god as a focus. Unlike warcasters (who focus only on spellcasting), Paladins are a hybrid sub-class that rely on a fifty percent distribution of melee and spellcasting. Many specialize in spell sniping (firing projectile spells and area of effect spells from great distances) . It is rare for a Protokeros to be chosen by more than one patron, but a majority of those that have two patrons have historically been paladins. Former Imperatori Rigela was such a force, and was revered before her Corruption and subsequent downfall. This is one of the most difficult ranks to achieve, and very few alive have done so. Much like combat medics, they will work with commanders and follow orders, but are not beholden to them and are free to move at will on the field of battle. !!!IMPORTANT!!! This sub-class is NOT available for MYOs, and must be earned by first selecting the thaumaturge sub-class, and earned through special means. More details to come!

MAGE CLASS

Protokeros seeking a profession in this class must apply to the college in the capital city of Vesperia. All of the professors are relatively young, as the Elders and Grand Mages mostly died out nearly a century ago, taking much of their knowledge with them. It is the task of this new generation to rebuild what they can by uncovering what little manuscripts and books survived The Great Upheaval. Every so often, word comes back from the Coronessa and her team about findings in many of the Protokeran ruins scattered throughout the Polar Wilds.

There is an extensive network and internal hierarchy within this sub-class based upon skill, specialization, knowledge, and years of service. NOBILITY & RULING CLASSES

This is a very small sect of the population. The nobility are public figures acting on behalf of the royal family to ensure the safety of Protokeran citizens. The royal family are the direct descendants of Prometheus Starkindler and Andromeda Shadoweave. This is the same family that has ruled for every generation of Protokeran existence, and the only known survivor is Aurora Starkindler, the Half-Blood. Her legitimacy has been questioned in whispers, but few have dared argue with the very clear blessing bestowed upon her; even if it is speculated that either a different family should rule, or she should relinquish her power to a Pureblood. Royal titles are the only ones currently in Protokeran society NOT based on merit. None of these titles are available for MYOs without strict procedures (more details later), and some might not be available at all. This is meant as a guide to show social heirarchy.

CHAMPION

Authority: 6

Titles: Sir (m), Dame (f), Lady (f), Oudétea (nb)

Patron Gods: N/A

This title is exclusive to non-Protokeran members of society, and thus does not require a patron deity. This is the equivalent to Empyral Knight status, as these individuals are of high martial and tactical prowess, and have proven to be great allies to the new kingdom. !!!IMPORTANT!!! Your characters cannot start with this title, this must be earned through events.

VARÓNUS

Authority: 5

EXALTÉRUS

Authority: 4

Titles: Exalted, Blessed

Patron Gods: Any

This is NOT a profession, but the title given to adult Protokeros exhibiting extremely rare traits, as this is a sign of divine favor. These individuals are expected to act as leaders, and are given social standing only outranked by nobility or royalty. This intense social pressure has led to the downfall of many Protokeros with these traits, including Former Imperatori Rigela. Some traits have been dormant for so long that it is believed the Protokeros are still suffering punishment for their ancestor's deeds leading up to the Great War. This is only half true, as Verum and Thyra have only just begun to re-introduce boons now that the Corruption is supposedly less of a threat among the Protokeros. Protokeros who earn this title still retain their professions/titles related to said professions.

STEWARD

Authority: 3.5

The family or individuals chosen to govern in the absence of the royal family. This sub-class is not available.

IMPERATORI

Authority: 1

Titles: Imperatori, High Exalted, Sovereign

Patron Gods: Any

There are always two Imperatori who serve as the primary rulers of the Protokeros. It is said that two equal rulers is symbolic of Verum and Thyra's dominion over the Gods, and that the Starkindler and Shadoweave lines were appointed by Verum and Thyra themselves. The Imperatori are responsible for law-making, relations with other nations, and ensuring the balance and prosperity of all life.
