Names

Names

Names are incredibly important to the Protokeros, as they signify many things about an individual. First names can reflect the hopes of the parents for thier child, or they can simply be related to the child's appearance. Surnames are far more significant in terms of identifying a Protokeros' background and familial ties. Names in the native Protokeran tongue are Greek, Latin, or sometimes italian in nature. There are, of course, exceptions to this, especially in the case of travelers, scholars, and hybrids.

Surnames

Surnames are REQUIRED for all Protokeros! These names often signify professions or places of origin for older generations, whereas younger generations may inherit names that have no bearing on their own talents. You are welcome to create or use any profession-based names you can think of that aren't listed, but please note that the below city-based names are the only ones available at this time. They are the only major cities of note left standing by the current generations are born!

Profession-based Surnames

  • Skáfwright (boat-maker)
  • Archer
  • Baker/Cook

Covenants & Family Names

Covenants are the equivalent to marriage in Protokeran society. When two Protokeros enter a Covenant, it is far more common for each to keep their own names, rather than one take the name of the other. When children are born, the parents must then decide which surname to pass down. Typically the parent with a more recognized or prestigous name gets the priority. Often, the children are allowed to choose for themselves when they get older.
