"La Seine and I" - Vanessa Paradis, Sean Lennon

She's resplendent
So confident
La Seine, La Seine, La Seine
I realize
I'm hypnotized
La Seine, La Seine, La Seine

When Fantom first arrived at the headquarters of the dreamcatchers, he did not know what to expect. He worked with the commander for a period of time, then was told that he’d become a vice-captain of one of the squadrons. Despite that he still had to have an interview with it’s captain. He was pretty sure that he would be accepted no matter what, since it was an order from a higher up, but decided to look and act his best anyway. He didn’t really care whether he got the job or not. In fact, there were very few things he cared about.

When he arrived at Sen’s office the first thing he noticed was how shabby he looked. His hair was a tangled mess, his face unshaven with dark bags under his eyes. It was not a good first impression, though the longer Fan talked to him, the more intrigued he became. He expected Sen’s behaviour to be as messy as his looks, but he appeared to be very intelligent and his looks were a result of overworking. He seemed embarrassed about it too, which Fan found a little funny.

The captain kept asking him questions and talking about how hard and unrewarding the job was. Fantom realised that he was trying to discourage him from joining and that the more he tried, the more interested Fan became. Not in catching nightmares, but in Sen. He was confident, professional and had an aura of leadership around him. But more than anything, he was really doing his best for the good of all lions. Fan found himself thinking that he wouldn’t mind working under someone like that.

I hear the moon
Singing a tune
La Seine, La Seine, La Seine
Is she divine?
Is it the wine?
La Seine, La Seine, La Seine

Further days and then months working with Sen only assured him that Sen was a person to admire. He was not without flaws. He had quite a few and one of them was his lack of any intention of fixing them. But none of those really mattered and were dimmed by the big picture. Sen was like an angel sent from heavens. He worked harder than anyone and always put his pride in front of him. He never used his position as leader and treated everyone equally, no matter their rank, background or even species, though that last one came not without effort.

Fan liked to simply sit and observe him, which made the captain a little awkward and embarrassed and made Fan very happy.

I feel alive
When I'm beside
La Seine, La Seine, La Seine
From this angle
Like an angel
La Seine, La Seine, La Seine

With passing time Fantom found that his feelings, which first started as admiration, soon turned into something much more than even friendship. As vice-captain he spent most of his time beside Sen and it gave him a comforting, pleasant feeling. Whenever they were separated, he felt like something was missing from the world. A spark of light of happiness that Sen became to him.

Fantom likes to hum this song whenever the two of them are alone because La Seine is a homophone of Sen’s name. It annoys Sen, but is also kind of sweet.

Up on the bridge
My heart does beat
Between the waves
We will be saved?

Though strangers at first, they had to learn to trust and rely on each other. Being a dreamcatcher was a serious and often dangerous work. With the two sides at war with each other, they had to face threats steaming from both of them and from the abnormals as well. Only by helping each other were they able to survive all the missions.

On one such excursion Revas was knocked off a cliff by a large, furious lion. He would have fallen many feet down into a stormy river. The waves were high and would have definitely swallowed him under water to meet his demise. Fantom used his time-slowing ability and risked his own life to grab him just in the last second and saved him. It was this moment that solidified their friendship and assured Sen that Fantom could be trusted.

The air we breathe
Can you believe?
Learn to forgive
Upon the bridge...

Sen is not one to talk about or show his feelings and Fantom never pressured him. Though as individuals they were friends, there was history past their two kinds that made their relationship all that much more complicated. Fantom has experienced positives and negatives from both sides and as far as he was concerned, they weren’t much different. However, Sen’s father died in a battle against nightmares and, whether he wanted to or no, rooted a hate for all nightmares in his mind.

It was unprecedented for a dream and a nightmare to be together, or at least, that’s what they thought. Fantom worried that Sen’s hate and desire for revenge will never let him see past Fan’s species, but he was wrong. Though at first Sen never showed affection, he also never rejected it when Fan showed it and with passing time seemed more and more happy to receive it and became less reserved.

During one of their patrols they found an abandoned cub and saved it. They were reluctant about keeping it, but since noone else wanted to take it, they had to become it’s parents. Having to raise it together brought them even closer, since they had to spend more time together and cooperate to take care of it. The two nightmares became the most important people in Sen’s life.

Sen and Fan’s feelings became identical. The hate disappeared from Sen’s heart. They were all lions and that was all that mattered.

I don't know, Don't know
So don't ask me why
That's how we are
La Seine and I

Fantom would not be able to tell what exactly sparked the flame of love inside him. At first he was just curious about Sen and admired his devotion and kindness. He started flirting with him, but only because Sen was really embarrassed about it and Fan treated it as just another way of a having a little fun. When did he start hoping that Sen would respond in a different way to those little jokes? Would their feelings have ever developed if he had never started?

Him and Sen have very different personalities, looks and backgrounds, but somehow they longed for each other’s company. That’s when they both felt best, felt complete. They like each other for the strengths and weaknesses. They never had a serious fight and could always understand each other more than anyone else, almost like they could read what the other was thinking.

Perhaps it was destiny that brought them together, at least in Sia’s opinion. Whatever the case, they wish to stay together forever.
