Monarks are a large Familiar species, and can range in size from 2ft-4ft at the shoulder (effectively German Shepherd to large pony in height), with the smaller sizes being more common. The 2-3ft ones may be kept in the pods, while larger than 3ft will be treated like large owlcats and require a special pen be created outside, with adult assistance.

When happy, Monarks are pretty chill, relaxed creatures that tend to bond with one particular person. Once they've bonded with someone, a Monark will dedicatedly guard and look after their charge, often preferring to follow them around if allowed. It is imperative that a Monark be carefully and thoroughly trained, as an untrained Monark will often become violently possessive of their person, and this can become a major problem for their owner and everyone around them.

Companions given Monarks, especially Younglings and Ados, will typically be guided and assisted through training them to ensure it is done, and done right.

Monarks are primarily carnivorous, and do well on a cat food diet. They do, however, possess an extreme sweet tooth, and it isn't uncommon to hear that someone's Monark got into their gummy bears while they were at class. Fortunately they have a much higher tolerance for sugar than most animals do, so while you should still keep the snacks well out of reach, you don't need to worry about rushing them to the med wing if they get into your cookie stash.
