The Old Facility

At its inception, Anima was run out of a massive underground laboratory within Silverbrook. The Facility was where all Companions were created prior to the move to the Academy, and is still operational in a more limited capacity, primarily for research and medical purposes.

Originally, the Facility had multiple underground floors with the lowest ones dedicated to the labs, the upper ones dedicated to the quality-of-life areas (pool, exercise room, playrooms, the above-ground outdoors-y area known as Paradise, interview rooms, offices, and the store front/lobby), and the middle floors were primarily taken up by Companion rooms and the Med Wing.

After the death of Pale it became clear tensions were running high in Silverbrook, and the security and safety of the Facility was brought into question. Shortly thereafter, construction began on a new, more secure location near a reservoir, about 20 minutes outside the city. Construction proceeded quickly, and while the move had a few bumps along the way, it went more or less smoothly.

The vast majority of AAA Companion creation and care now takes place at the Academy, where the Companions are raised in a much more child-friendly, humane environment with more room to breathe and stretch their legs. Those rare few Companions created at the Facility nowadays are typically moved to the Academy as soon as they are deemed stable enough to move (usually before they're even old enough to walk).

The Facility remains operational, and day-to-day serves primarily as an office space and research lab for AAA. It also operates as an emergency medical location for Companions in Silverbrook, as the Academy is almost half an hour away.
