Madison Niq

madison is… what one would call a failed experiment. in an effort to revive her childhood dog, the taboo witch, nyssa, made one crucial mistake. she had failed to clean the bones of her old friend properly before the ceremony, and thus she also brought the soil to life — the expansive, life-giving soil, with genetic material from everything that ever lived on its surface. instead of a cheerful old dog, out came a hyperintelligent, black inky mass, that promptly slipped out her window and into the outside world. 

with enough effort, madison realized it could shapeshift. tail between his legs, he came back to his creator’s house, in the hope to be raised and accepted by her. by then, his older sibling Sam was still living at home, holding their creator in great contempt. even so, madison trusted her, and desired her company. she recognized his potential, his intelligence, and attempted to raise him as her son. at this point, it had not yet become known that nyssa committed the taboo of creating life from nothing, and the three of them lived peacefully.

but sam’s grudge ran deep, and it did not take long for them to rat their creator old. nyssa then fled, or rather, disappeared overnight, never to be seen again. sam, too, left their old shack, and madison was left to fend for himself. it was then that he decided to take on a permanent guise of a human, and, well… find something to do!

though he had a rough start, madison has established himself as a performer. as a shapeshifter and anatomy enthusiast, he’s gotten a knack for morbid acts. blood and viscera doesn’t bother him in the slightest, perhaps a trait passed down from his mother, and it‘s often at the forefront of his various creations. paintings, statues, performance art — he’s a bit of a renaissance man when it comes to visual arts, and he’s managed to find decent success in the galleries of london. perhaps that’s why he stayed in the human world, despite there being a place where he would fit in better. in a world of magical creatures, he simply wouldn’t be a novelty. and feeling unique… that’s what drives him. 

despite his morbid, sometimes pretentious appearance, madison is a kind and whimsical person. once you get to know him, he’s a very supportive person, past all the psychedelic and absurdist philosophies he spews 24/7. but he is not grounded, whatsoever. both in mind and in body, madison is incredibly unstable, and his form is prone to melting down to goo any minute. it scares him, deep down, but he’d rather disappear than admit that.
