CREACHER #89. CHIMEGUY

PEERCAT.png

ABOUT

"Mushroom shaped creachers that love to feast and frolic to the sound of their bells. A deeply loathed pest to farms and gardens alike, they ravage entire plots and fields, and will demand you to dance until you drop if you have nothing worth bartering with."

TRIVIA

1. - A group of Chimeguys is called a cluster (an uncommon plural term for them is mycelithem).

2. - Their diet consists of plant matter, both living and decaying, and they are always hungry for a feast

3.- They are most prevalent in the hallowed woods, where the humidity and lack of sunlight keeps the soils suitably damp. However, they can also venture into Pleasant Acres farms after rainfall, in search of perhaps more nutritious food. Once a Chimeguy has found a new location, preferably rich in plants to feast upon, it will quickly call and assemble a cluster to join them; thus, there is a very small window of time to make sure they do not infest your garden or field

4. - Chimeguys are born from the detached bells of another Chimeguy, filled with spores that slowly mature and overtake the bell to form the main body. Baby Chimeguys can be identified by the bells on their bums; adult Chimeguys will have 1-3 of them on the ends of their newly-grown tails, which they can wilfully detach/replace with new bells in order to grow their cluster. Every so often, an aged Chimeguy can sprout multiple bells on its cap, which will fill with spores and detach upon its death, ready to be spread elsewhere.

5.- Clusters of Chimeguys will DEVOUR all the vegetation in your gardens or fields before moving on to a new location, making them a HORRIBLE pest in Pleasant Acres. The best way to get rid of them is to offer them a piece of your best crop as bartering material + a peace offering to make them leave. .

6. If you don't have anything worth offering, they will demand you dance with them instead. Chimeguys have incredible stamina, and the music from their bells is both alluring and has a rather strange property: while a dance with them may feel as if it lasts only minutes, in reality it can last multiple hours, leaving many Mahous exhausted and disoriented. The Chimeguys will take advantage of this disorientation to run and escape before the affected Mahou can retaliate significantly. It's best not to dance with them unless you have a lot of resilience - if you outlast them in a dance, they will become very afraid of/respect your strength and are highly likely to leave you alone for good.

7. If neither bartering nor dancing until you drop is a viable/desirable option, an easy way to scare them off ASAP is to threaten them with fire (magical & non-magical both work!) - you can also place a few candles near your crops to make sure any approaching Chimeguys know that your garden/field is not safe for them.

8. Chimeguys can be easily identified by their circle/ring formations, or the sound of their bells ringing as they move. While all Chimeguys are inherrently toxic, they can look like any type of mushroom, including edible ones! It's best to be sure you don't mistake them for food when foraging, and are able to identify + kick them out of your garden before they become a bigger problem.

9.Chimeguys pose very little threat at all to Mahous who are fey and/or use fey magic. They will be very polite and ask for/wait to be offered food instead of just taking it! Some Mahous think this stems from Chimeguys adoring fey beings, and others believe it's because they see fey beings as predators that need to be pacified ASAP. Mahous that are fey/use fey magic are immune to the allure of the Chimeguy's bells, and only need to engage in dance with them if they want to Flex said immunity.

10. Although they prefer the sounds of their own bells and chimes, Chimeguys are receptive to live music! If you play an instrument to try and pacify them, chimeguys will often use their bells to harmonise and play along without compelling you to dance with them. If they think you played well enough, they'll be happy to leave with no further fuss! If your performance was poor, they'll still leave you be, but they'll be taking some of your plants with them. They respect almost any well-intentioned effort made to pacify them, and playing music is almost just as good as giving them your best and biggest piece of your crop. If you play music through a stereo/speaker/phone/etc, the chimeguys will be quite offended and play their bells louder than the music, and make you dance with them as an apology for your poor taste >:(
