Physical Description 

• Superficially resembles a dark green hippo
• Typically manifests with a thick, beefy build
• Covered in variable patches of bismuth crystals, which change in shape, size, and color from day to day

  • Head superficially resembles a hippo skull surrounded by prehensile prismatic tendrils
  • The number and placement of his limbs varies, and sometimes he'll have more/less tendrils, or wings, or bismuth growths, or golden parts, or whatever
  • He's more obviously a shapeshifting monster and displays more significant variation than when he's a "hippo"

Personality 

• Unassuming, gentle
• Tries not to call any attention to himself
• Modest, downplays any accomplishments people try to praise him for
• ...until he's a GOLDEN SKULL MONSTER
  • With disguise removed he's much less soft-spoken because he's completely unconcerned with concealing his true nature
  • More in-your-face and demanding, actively commands people's attention
  • Generally he's not manifesting as Howl unless there's some reason for it (typically it's because he wants something), so of course he's going to act differently when he's purposefully discarding his disguise

Likes 

• Golden and prismatic aesthetics - they just naturally attract his eye
• The smell of incense
  • Percy can't stand it, though, so he's gotta keep that stuff to himself
• Watching stuff others might consider monotonous or boring
  • He finds himself entering a meditative state while focusing on rain falling/leaves swirling/wheels turning/etc.

Personal Info 

• Dating Percy, and it's a little strange
  • He doesn't have that great a handle on mortal relationships but he's certainly interested in this dog
  • He's not quite sure what he's doing but he's drawn to Percy for some reason (maybe this has something to do with that "concept of love" thing people keep going on about)
  • He sure does have a soft pink mortal
• He's not out of touch with mortal affairs in the way that, say, Moth is, but he's not perfect at relating to mortal emotions (though he's not as bad as Roach)
• His voice is as variable as the rest of him, and he manipulates it for whatever effect he's going for
  • His "Hal" disguise sounds soft and a little dopey because awww look at him he's just a big cutie and a very normal hippo
  • With disguise removed, he usually goes for "garbled monster speech" - not because it's his "real voice" or "natural tendency" or whatever, but just because it tends to work with his appearance and get people appropriately spooked
