Meri lived on a planet that encouraged the arts above all else. They grew up always wanting to join the ranks of the highest members of society, painters and sculptors and story crafters. She worked hard her whole life to make her art something worthy of praise, and graduated their art school with top marks.

Meri quickly got to work establishing themself in the art world. They had gallery showings every week, painted and created and wrote like their life depended on it, they even bought out an unused concert hall to work as her gallery/studio space. The walls were lined with their work, all of it for sale and all of it untouched for years.

The competition was just too much. Meri was just another face in the crowd, another unnamed artist with no recognition and not enough luck to break into the higher ranks. Broke and desperate, Meri began staying up later and later each night, pushing themself to work harder, longer, faster. None of it worked.

One night, criminals broke into Meri's gallery with the intention of stealing their work. Meri payed them no mind, casually informing them that she was a failure, and the paintings were never going to be worth much anyway. The robbers, not willing to leave empty handed, decided art is always more expensive when the artist behind them was dead. They shot Meri, leaving her for dead and taking almost all of her work with them.

Lilith, who had been travelling through star systems nearby, heard about the news through the criminals themselves. She quickly diverted to head towards this planet, hoping to intercept the body before it could be buried.

Lucky for Lilith, Meri was such a failure that no one other than the criminals even knew they were dead. Lilith arrived at Meri's gallery a day after the robbers left to find their corpse still on the ground in their studio. Lilith happily took it back to the ship, starting her experiments.

Three days later, Meri was alive and kicking. Kicking the robbers, to be exact, as the first thing they did with their newfound immortality and lack of self-preservation was to hunt them down and kill them. Now with all the time in the world, Meri could devote all her awareness to making the best work she can.

Due to the injuries Meri sustained, her right arm is unusable, replaced instead by several mechanical ones. As with all of the other experiments, Meri's ability to feel love was tainted by the mechanisms supporting her life. Now the only thing she can love is something she creates. While she could technically create a relationship to feel love for another person, the experiments also granted them a near-perfect memory. With just that much more available to them to create the perfect masterpiece, who has time for love?

Meri is loud, chaotic, and has little to no self-preservation. She'll throw herself into her work for days on end, knowing full well that overworking can no longer result in her death. They feel little to no connection to the other members of the crew, but will gladly join them when it comes time to destroy other ships or towns.
