Language Translations for Creation

Posted 4 years, 6 months ago (Edited 2 years, 7 months ago) by Dez

Hey! I'm not sure if this is the right spot to post this, but I think it'd be cool to have a place for bilingual people to translate some cool phrases or words for creations. Personally I'm looking to see if someone can correctly translate "You can't handle the truth" from English to Latin.

I'm not bilingual myself, unfortunately, but maybe others who want correct translations can build this post up and help each other.

So what kinds of things do you want translated for your creations and how do you use them? I like using phrases or words to create names or locations :)

Edit: Wow, this post blew up more than I originally thought it would! From now on, I'll try to list the languages and the users that speak said languages below to make it easier for others to find the proper person they need! If there's any problems at all with what's listed, please let me know and I'll change it ASAP. If there are languages that are together that the native speakers suggest be separated, please also let me know! I don't want to offend anyone and I don't know much about different languages (but I'm learning a lot from everyone). Thank you to everyone for your assistance!

If anyone wants to know anything specific to translate, please ping in the forum someone from the list under the correct language. There are many people with many skills who have offered their time to help :)

Please try to keep things PG13, as there may be minors present. Also if anyone in the list wishes to be removed from it for any reason, please let me know! I will do so with no questions asked.

CatPerson :0 I'm so glad you can join, then! It's so awesome that your aunt was interested in them and that she's a big part of your profile reading. It's nice when someone is that invested in something that you do. Good luck with translating and I'll be sure to add you in the list!

iboga My apologies, but I don't think that it's possible to delete the comment. I seem to be able to edit or delete my own, but not others'. Sorry for the inconvenience :( If you want to just leave the comment there or make it an empty comment (if you can't delete it yourself) then that will also be fine :)

pax :0!!! Holy crap!! That's amazing! If this forum ends up helping to preserve dying languages or cultures, that'd be awesome! Especially if it would somehow help keep it alive or even get others interested in it. So just to be sure I understand this correctly, you'd like to be placed in the list under Filipino, but with Gaddang attached? Or would it be Tagalog with Gaddang attached? It would look pretty simple like "Filipino (Gaddang)" or "Tagalog (Gaddang)." I definitely want to be sure I label these properly.

Also, feel free to post the link to the dictionary here whenever you guys get it finished! You're welcome to explain it, tell why it's here, etc if you want so that others will also know about it :) Anything the forum post can do to help it get some attention!

Dez

pax Oh wow, I had no idea! It's reasons such as these that I ask about proper labeling. Thank you so much for informing me!

I'll probably put "Gaddang" for now. If other Philippine languages pop up enough, perhaps I'll label it differently, but putting them as their own language seems to fit better from what you're saying. I'd rather respect each one that comes up in that regard. Once again, thank you so much for informing me!

On that topic, how would you thank someone in Gaddang? And are there different ways of talking to someone depending on how close you are, like honorifics or anything? :)

Dez

Wenldy Aw don't feel nervous! I'll be sure to list next to your name that you do English ---> Russian. BTW I absolutely LOVE how Russian sounds :) It's always been one of my favorite languages, so it's great to have someone here that speaks it! I very well may contact you at some point XD

pax That's so fascinating! I'm more familiar with there being some kind of honorifics when speaking to higher ups, but more recently there have been more languages I've discovered that don't do that. But I feel it would be kinda intimidating to hear someone speak in Gaddang if they're not used to it XD But that's so interesting! Thanks so much for teaching these things! I hope to learn more from you about your language and culture :)

Waltz

I've seen this thread before but keep forgetting to comment! Feel free to list me up for Japanese :D I'm a pro J-E translator of several years and I'm always happy to help people with small things when I have the free time 👍

Dez

Waltz That's awesome! I'll be sure to list you. Are you able to translate any kanji at all? I think that's the thing I have the most issues with XD

Waltz

Haha yep! Reading kanji is actually the bulk of dealing with Japanese, so I do so plenty. Admittedly there are still plenty of compounds that I have to look up, even after a decade+ of study, but recognition definitely improves with practice 👍

Dez

Waltz Amazing! I will definitely keep you in mind when I come across something that doesn't make any sense at all XD Thanks so much!

DanTheMemeMan

Is there any way I can have mine changed from broken spanish to learning spanish please?

Dez

DanTheMemeMan Consider it done! Sorry if it came across as rude, that wasn't the intention ._.

DanTheMemeMan

It's no problem thats what I meant at the time, But I do know a lot more now then I did at the time!

Dez

DanTheMemeMan That's great to hear! Glad that you're expanding your knowledge :) Keep it up!
