Language Translations for Creation

There's quite a few differences oh man, I can't even list all of the slang without writing a book in this post. We do take after the British so some things may have simply been adopted from Britain. Enjoy, here's some ways that you can make yourself sound like a Canadian. If you'd like more info, just hit me up whenever you'd like ;]

I always find it amusing in a nice way when Americans pick up on the subtle differences in how we pronounce things. Canadians, not all but quite a few, have a habit of emphasizing vowels. Some of examples of this are (Canadian is first, American is second):

- prO-gress vs prah-gress
- ah-gAy-nst vs ah-genst
- vI-ah vs vee-ah

Some words are spelt differently too. In Canada, center is spelt centre (fiber is also spelt fibre). It's not paycheck here, it's paycheque. And I'm pretty sure everyone knows that we spell words with a U, like colour and neighbour (although this also happens in other countries, America is just weird)

Some slang/words that can be used throughout the entire country:

- Eh (pronounced ay). Yes a lot of us say this. It's usually used to turn a statement into a question (like "don't you know?") but can also be used as a greeting
- Double-double. This one came from Tim Hortons, which is a coffee shop, and just means two creams and two sugars. So you'd order a coffee like "I'd like one small double double" (I want a small coffee with two shots of cream and two shots of sugar)
- Canuck. A fun way of saying Canadian, no one takes offence to this
- Two-four. 24 pack of beer
- Two-six. 26 ounce bottle of alcohol
- Hydro. This means electricity because a lot of our electricity comes from hydro dams. Just say "what's the hydro bill?" and people will know that you're talking about the electrical bill
- Serviette. Napkin, I think we got this from the French
- Eavestrough. Gutters
- Dike. A wall used to stop flooding. This has nothing to do with the derogatory term and is NOT a slur or bad word of any kind here

AnonymousPumpkins :0 Wow, a lot of those I didn't even know! Apparently some Americans speak like Canadians, which isn't too surprising. No one can figure out how to say a lot of words because of our different dialects XD I grew up in the south, with parents speaking rather differently from how I speak. Sometimes people say "warsh" instead of wash or how my mother says "ol" instead of "oil." There's "soda," "pop," or "sodapop" depending on where you're from. "I says to her" instead of "I said to her." The south is very weird XD I speak a bit more western from what I others have told me, so I teased my mother aaalll the time XD

industrial mess is: "Industrielles Chaos" This would sound the best. You could also call it "Industrie Chaos" but this sounds a bit softer than the first one.

I would stick to the first one.
