October Prompts

 “Please don’t just stab into the Squash!” Zucca cries, “They are delicate, you know, and will bruise,” She frowns at the student who huffs. “Well if you don’t want to follow instructions you can leave.” She says the disappointment in her voice making the student hesitate for just a second before dumping the squash and carving blade on the ground. Zucca watches them leave then cleans up their mess sadly. It was so hard to find good help this year. Usually she has so many volunteers that want to help with the squash and pumpkin carvings for the Annual Pumpkin party. 

This year though. She shakes her head. It was such a shame. That was only the forth and so far last one. 

She continues to clean as she considers her options. A knock at the door makes her jump. “Ah come in I suppose.” 

A young Dextro woman steps in and waves, “Ah Hi! Oh I expected more uh…” She looks around. “Do you still need volunteers or are you done already?” 

Zucca shakes her head, “Nowhere near done, so if you would like to help you are welcome to.” She sits down on the floor with a large pumpkin in her lap. “Have you ever carved a pumpkin before?” 

The other woman shakes her head, “Not since I was very young, so you will have to remind me a lot of the steps if you don’t mind.” She smiles at the Auratail woman. “I haven’t gotten to take one of your classes yet so I am excited to get the chance to learn from you even if it's just for a few hours.” 

Zucca looks over this young woman again, “Oh, well I am flattered! Well, go ahead and grab whichever one speaks to you and sit here then.” She smiles, “And what is your name dear?” 

The Dextro looks carefully over the table of various squashes, “Im Ayla, ma’am! I am really happy to finally get to meet you. I have heard such great things about your classes.” She looks up at the giant pumpkin they were sitting in. “And about your really cool pumpkins!” She grins at Zucca. “So far not disappointed! This thing is huge!”
