23. Phobia - 28. Eyes Everywhere

Penelope arrives at Amharc University and clutches her bag to her chest. She didn’t know what to expect of this campus as she had heard many mixed reviews of this place. Some of which were very concerning. She swallows and takes a step forward.

As she walks she starts to feel more comfortable. This was just a college like the one she works at! Nothing scary there either! And no one is even paying attention to her. There was no reason to get all worked up after all. She hurries to the offices she was instructed to go to for the information she was seeking. Everything was going to be fine!

She gets there and pushes open the old heavy door that leads into a very nice looking waiting room. Plush armchairs on either side of a coffee table covered in refreshments like coffee and cakes. Across the room is a window of a receptionist’s office.

The Nunuke looks up from his computer and takes off his glasses. “Hi, can I help you?” His voice was dry and amused. “Do you have an appointment?”

Penelope clears her throat, nervous to be interacting with this strange looking man. “Ah, well uh yes, I do. I am Penelope Moonpenn from the Forever Green College for an exchange of information with someone from this department.

He stares at her for a brief moment, as if trying to read her. “Ah, yes, Solomon’s Representative. I will let them know.” He closes his sliding window and clops away down a hall.

Penelope sighs in relief once he is out of earshot and sits down in one of the armchairs. It was surprisingly comfortable. She looks over the offerings on the table and considers taking a cookie. As she reaches for one the hair on the back of her neck raises and goosebumps pop up all along her arms. She draws back and looks around carefully, she thought she felt someone watching her. She hates this feeling. Being watched, from just out of sight. It sends her heart thudding. She gets up and looks around some more. There is no one around, not even cameras.

She lets out a groan of fear. She hates it there. The concerning reviews from some of the previous Representatives bubbling to mind again. She shakes her head, trying to keep herself calm. She was just being paranoid, of course, she knew other people had felt like that here too so surely it was just her assuming she was supposed to feel this way too. Right?

The Receptionist comes back to his desk. He opens the window, “Tituba will be here soon.” He says before closing the window again and sitting down, going back to whatever he was doing when she first walked in.

She watches towards the door she assumed this Tituba would be coming from. A few minutes later she feels a hand on her shoulder making her jump. She looks up behind her and sees a strange person indeed! Tall and slender, the Dextro (she was pretty sure) woman towered over her. Her eyes were blacked out and seeping some strange thick liquid.

“Oh dear. My apologies, I had called your name a few times.” She notices the Auratail staring at her face. “Do not worry, this is a natural occurrence and is not indicative of an illness. Please follow me to my office so the Exchange can begin.” She walks off towards the door Penelope had been watching.

Penelope was embarrassed at being caught staring so got up quickly to not offend this woman anymore then she already had. Along their walk to the office, Tituba points out various things through the classrooms and offices, never once looking back at Penelope. Though this didn’t help with the Auratail’s feeling of being watched. That feeling had only got stronger when with the Dextroluma (maybe Nunuke… oh! She must be one of the hybrids Penelope had heard about.). She could not understand why she felt this way when one of what Penelope had assumed was tattoos moved and made eye contact with her. She gasped and covered her mouth praying that she wasn’t caught.

Still facing away from Penelope, Tituba smiles to herself. What an easy catch this one was. She focuses all her eyes on the Auratail who could help but squirm uncomfortably under her many gaze
