14. Sinister Chamber - 21. Candles

“This is his door.” The bouncer says, leading the bandaged dextro woman up. “Are you sure this is the gentleman you wish to see? He doesn’t usually accept clients this way.”

Tristania nods. “Yes. He is the one I need.”

The bouncer looks at her very worried then leaves her to the door. It wasn’t their business after all.

Tristania stares at the ornately carved door before her, mild feelings of apprehension fill her, but she couldn’t go back now. Not after all the strings Puck pulled to get her this meeting in the first place. It would be so rude to waste their efforts and kindness.

She knocks.

A little window slides open in the door suddenly and she flinches back. “Who are you and what do you want! The Lord is not taking clients now! He is waiting for an important guest.”

Tristania’s mouth flaps, her words completely left her in fright. Not that she could have spoken with her heart in her throat as it was.

The eye at the window peered at her expectantly, waiting for her answer before huffing and slamming shut again. The door opened to a short grumpy looking man. “Well?” He snaps, “Who are you and what do you want?” He crosses his arms and glares up at her.

“Quinn. Calm yourself, this is our guest.” A tall figure appears behind the short man, making him only appear shorter by comparison. “Leave us.”

Quinn gapes shocked up at him. “But Master Anubis!” He sputters out. “I uh!... Yes of course.” He steps out and shoots Tristania a look before heading down the hallway.

Anubis steps out of his room, having to duck to not knock his horns and ears against the door frame. “Forgive my vassal, he operates with a zeal that few others possess in this day and age.” He holds open the door for her. “Shall we begin?” He looks at her with striking purple eyes and she starts to feel like this man could hunt her until the end of time. She nods and lets him lead her into his rooms, and then farther in.

He leads her to an ornate fireplace covered in glowing purple candles. “This way,” He says, pressing a sequence of carvings that seemed to be buttons. The fireplace shudders and then moves into the wall revealing another hall. “To my office.” He gestures for her to go in first.

She swallows and is filled with the knowledge that if deals are made, it was very likely she would never see the world above again. She hesitantly proceeds him into the candle lit hallway.

“My work chambers are at the end of the hall now, so just continue on till then.” He places a light hand against the small of her back. “Don’t be afraid dear, you are a friend of a friend. I am sure we can come to an agreement.” He smiles down at her and she glances up. Goosebumps spread across her arms as he gazes down at her. Thank all above for friends.
