October Prompts

Ok, so this time it was a really old building. Super run down. Like what is he thinking?? I would do anything for him, but surely this time its an occupational hazard. I’m probably going to get tetanus… or Worse! 

Despite my better judgment I reach toward the door. The knob just comes off in my hand and the door itself swings open and then proceeds to fall off its hinges. It clatters to the floor with a wet thud that sends dust up and me coughing my lungs out. 

This is horrible and I hate it. I creep inside and let me just say. It smells as bad as it looks. Musty, rotten, decidedly wet.

I want to hurk.

Apparently though this is the only place to get the right strain of a certain fungus he desperately needs. So here I am. 

I do not hide my displeasure from the mold encrusted walls and destroyed furniture. I am sure it all feels the same about its state. At least if I was that chair, I would be. 

Anyway, he said it would probably be down. So I guess probably under furniture or just generally on the floor. He also said I would know it when I see it. So I guess these basic looking ones are out. I sigh, then think really hard if I want to do that again while I’m here. I would not be surprised if I left with mushrooms growing out of me.

I head deeper into the house and start seeing small young looking mushrooms starting to grow thicker and bigger the deeper I go. 

I… I think that it's them! The ones he wants! Ok he said bigger is better so I probably should follow them as they get bigger. Alright! Maybe this isn’t so bad after all. 

How foolish can I be. 

Why did I ever think that. 

I take everything back! I hate it here again and everything is awful. 

I feel the bile rising in the back of my throat again and look back to what I thought I saw. Surely it was a trick of the light. 

… Ah. No. It is definitely a dead body. Those Mushrooms, they are straight up growing out of every hole on that person’s head, plus some new ones just for good measure, I guess. Oh twilights. What kind of place did Levi send me? Am I really going to die? 

Maybe… Maybe they started growing there after they passed? I gulp. 

This is terrible. I hate it here. 

I see something move out of the corner of my eye and squeak stumbling back into a mess of mushrooms, feeling some crunching under my feet. I look down and see that I was now in the middle of a different body shaped growth of mushrooms. 

Great. Now I am covered in corpse too! 

I see the thing move again and freeze. 

Its a girl! I think… She’s peeking out from behind a door frame at me. 

“Are you alive?” She asks. I nearly didn’t  hear her as she spoke barely above a whisper.

I nod quickly. “Yea, are you?” 

She nods too and beckons me and I hurry towards her and away from the body I desecrated.  

She was a dextroluma woman, which makes sense since I am deep in the Corrupted Island Region of the Dextroluma World. 

“I’m Tristania, who are you? Did Leif send you for me?” She asks, glancing back at me as she leads me through the house along a path free of mushrooms. Her voice is still barely above a whisper and very hoarse.

“Who? Oh uh maybe?” I ask hesitantly, unsure if this is someone that wouldn’t be too pleased with my boss or not. “I’m Puck. It's uh, good to meet you?” I continue hoping to be able to judge her reaction before she reacts. 

“It is really nice to meet you. I knew he would send someone out for me. It’s been a little while though so I admit I was starting to worry a little. But please don’t tell him that!” She adds quickly, glancing back at me again with a touch of fear in her eye. 

Huh… who was Leif and why do I suddenly hate him?
