A31. Power of Sleep

A31. Is magic present/available to your pride; if so what are the restrictions, what is it capable of, or what role does it play in your story/world> [ 443/300 word minimum ] - 200 exp

Dreams are magic beings, spirits in a way. They are not images that you can see in your head every night when Morpheus takes you into his arms, but guardians of the realm where dreams are born. Dreams are important in every creature’s life - they help relax, remember and inspire. The guardians form is inspired by one of the strongest, fastest and bravest of animals - the lion. Their ability to see well in the dark is another plus.

Legend tells that at the beginning of time there was only one dream. Himself a spirit, he fell in love with a beautiful lioness and all of the guardians living today are their descendants, split into two versions of the legendary spirit - dreams and nightmares. Not quite visions, but not ordinary lions either. Besides looks there are no major differences between the two. Many of the descendants do live their days under the moon just like ordinary animals, never visiting the realm of dreams, as being born a dream does not automatically make them a guardian.

The dreams are able to change their shapes, though because they had no need for it, it’s an ability that’s almost forgotten and only used by the guardians. While they consider their lion shape their “true form” they can take another that will be called a dreamsona. Theoretically they could have an unlimited number of forms, but they prefer to stick to just one since the infamous incident from the year of the Galloping Turkey. According to stories King Dagal hunted down five of his pride members before realising they were enjoying a stroll in the forms of deer. While in the dream hub the dreams take forms of humans - convenient for the confined spaces of the offices and for opening doors.

Being able to change their shape is not their only ability. Each lion has a special power that they’re born with. They range from telepathy through water bending to acid resistance. It is believed that they vary so much because anything is possible in a dream.

Though most lions forgot about it due to conflicts between their two sides, dreams and nightmares can only unleash their true potential when they come together. It is believed that every nightmare is a part of a dream and once they’re united by love, they can share their two powers and combine them into a greater one.

The lands are inhabited not just by dreams, but also of ordinary lions and those that originate from different spirit ancestrals. They’re similar to dreams, but they’re powers are much more limited and restricted to being a part of the power of their forebearer.
