N. Skye & Nyphora

Skye & Nyphora [ 546/500 word minimum ]

A friendship between Skye and Nyphora was unlikely, but their meeting - a destiny.

Skye used to live in the mainland, but when he was still a cub moved to a small island with his father and two brothers. His whole family was very accomplished, each in a different way, scouting, fighting and even art. Skye, as the youngest one, had a lot to live up to. He had shown potential since his youngest days, but not really an interest in any one particular thing and that potential was often wasted on jokes and destructive behaviour.

Nyphora, sailing the seven seas on a merchant ship, eventually happened to dock at the Isle of Dreams. Both of them are curious kids seeking adventure so when they met they showered each other with questions and invited the other to learn about their home. Nyph showed Skye how to climb the ropes to get into the crow’s nest. Skye tried to show off by swinging from a rope, but his manoeuvre failed and he landed on crates of goods. While the two of them laughed, the rest of the crew ushered them to leave the ship and explore the island.

Skye quickly realised that Nyphora was a sweet, caring and maybe slightly gullible girl. While he had no ill intentions, he had to use that fact to tell her all sorts of made up stories, especially since she kept asking questions and he was more than willing to make up some answers. He dared her to come with him to a haunted part of the island, but ended up being more scared than she was, so he quickly changed his tactic. To make up for it and to soothe his own nerves he showed her a flower glade where many species of flowers she’d never seen before grew. Skye himself wasn’t interested in such things, but he was sure she would enjoy the view. When Nyph went into a lengthy chat about bees and their importance in nature with his best friend, Nyuki, Skye started to feel a little jealous. After all, Nyph was his friend, he found her first. Unceremoniously, he walked in between the two, stopping their conversation and took the nekomata to a cliffside where they sat on the fresh grass and watched over the ocean and Nyphora’s ship.

Nyphora wasn’t the oldest child in her family, but was very caring and knew how to deal with annoying siblings and therefore how to deal with Skye and his loud mouth. Despite the differences in their personalities, they had really good communication and found out that they shared many things. Neither inherited wings from their parents and had a hard time accepting it as a child. Both had great idols as their parents that they wanted to live up to make them proud. Both were way overdramatic though not for exactly the same reasons.

Skye sought a life of adventure, but he had to stay on the island because of his brother, Sazha. Together they were making their own pride. He envied the freedom Nyphora had on her ship. While they sat on the cliff and laughed and shared stories, Skye promised to see her again one day and to sail together, seek treasure and explore distant lands.
