The Dreamcatchers / Night Watch

Commander - not a rank within The Dreamcatchers, but still associated with it. The Dreamcatchers are one of many different prides that all combined create the Moon Institution, an organisation created to maintain the balance of reality. The Commander usually does not interfere with prides, but all prides must report to him and he is the one planning and supervising all major events.

Captain - ruler of the whole pride, sometimes also called a king. They divide tasks, assign ranks and take reports from sergeants from all divisions. They are also responsible for maintaining contact with the Commander.

Vice-captain - they have the same responsibilities as the Captain and act as one if the Captain is unavailable. They usually end up having to do the Captain’s tasks if they’re slacking. While the Captain’s often acts as a representative and planner, the vice-captain is responsible for supervising the sergeants.

Sergeant - they supervise the members of lower ranks, report to the Captain and are responsible for training new recruits. The rank is often given to the most experienced lions, but not in every case. Sergeants need to be knowledgeable, but also charismatic and responsible. The best hunter does not always make the best teacher. There is usually one sergeant in every division of the pride, rarely two.

Corporal - the second lowest rank, an official member of the pride that has done their training and are ready to join a specific team, ex. hunters, investigators, trainers. Many lions stay as corporals for many years or even their whole lives. It is a rank mainly consisting of individuals that prefer being part of the action rather than to plan strategies or teach new members.

Constable - the lowest rank in the pride. Every new members starts as one, unless specifically assigned a different rank by the commander or shown specific qualities in a certain domain. For example, the first healer to join the pride would be assigned the rank of a Corporal, since there is no higher ranked healer that could teach them the ropes. It basically means “junior” or “in training”, a trial period before upgrading to a full rank.
