Spirala

The western-most island, it's just ruins now, uninhabited. Once in a while, a researcher will go there, but it's considered haunted and people avoid it if they can. There's an ancient ritual for proving oneself involving traveling to Spirala and staying there without help for a week.

This is all that's known. There is a society (spirits) here, and they are not part of the Iksaltari Empire, nor is the Empire aware of them. Their prince will eventually get a bio of his own.

Although Spirala is mostly trees, rocks, and ruins, the spirits have a major city hidden on the bluffs and a couple of smaller towns on the outskirts. Since the island is shaped in a spiral pattern, there is a large bay in the center of the island where spirits will drape vast nets both to prevent human entry and catch fish. They use magic to choose the biggest ones and let the rest go to encourage population growth. Spirits cannot expand their territory and therefore are very serious about their conservation efforts. In spirit society, one's skill with magic largely determines social standing and royalty, who hold absolute governing power, are determined by competitions to prove magical prowess. How much talent in magic you have is considered to be decided at birth and immutable. The current queen has Alzheimer's and her heir, the prince, is the one in control of the government. In addition to their administrative duties, royalty has the role of magically influencing the weather; non-royals are forbidden from practicing such magic.
