Gender

The archipelago has three standard genders, which young children usually begin presenting as around the age of five: male, female, and genderless (man/woman/ajun). Discrimination by gender was more common in the past, but the correlation between gender and genitals has always been loose. Non-trinary identities (i.e. genderfluid and other non-binary identities that involve having a gender) are uncommon but generally accepted among the general population, but the Temple of Hag and its devotees are rather strict about condemning what they call "humans claiming a god's gender for their own". The Iksaltari language itself doesn't usually denote gender unless it's the subject of the sentence, although this varies in certain dialects.
